Why is O-Pee-Chee worth more than Topps???

I cant speak for modern era cards, but I remember growing up that OPC was worth more than Topps. The sets seemed the same, the only difference was the Make of the cards.

Does anyone know???

O-Pee-Chee was the Canadian product, Topps the American. Much more produced in the US to reach the larger market.

So the more limited supply plus preference for the "made in Canada" product amongst Canadian collectors has led to higher values.

OPC also had larger sets than topps which resulted in several "OPC only" RCs. The 84-85 OPC Cam Neely is one that comes to my mind. Can't get a true Neel RC in Topps.
In 89-90, the tables turned and the Topps set has much more value than the OPC set becuase OPC was hugley overproduced that year.

Correct...That should say 89-90 OPC holds less value that 89-90 Topps.

Also depends on where you are. If you are in CA, Topps is usually more expensive because its rarer, while OPC is more expensive in the States. Like KingKuba said, supply and demand.

Other than 89-90, Topps is never more expensive in Canada. Can't really speak to values in the US, but I'd imagine it would be similar.

Well, I spent a good portion of the last two Toronto shows putting together a master set of California/Oakland Seals cards of both Topps and OPC. And when I could find Topps up there, it was almost always more expensive than the OPC counterparts. Dealers claimed it was so hard to find Topps up there. Luckily, there are still some dealers down here that carry old hockey cards, so I got most of my Topps here. The differences were not as dramatic as here (OPC stuff here is just ridiculous!), but Topps in general was more. Just my one experience.

Don't doubt that was your experience. Possible misleading and gouging? Perhaps there are a couple other years I am not aware of where this is the case, though. But for most that I know of, the OPC version will always sell for more than the Topps version. I tried to use the scarcity logic selling OPC baseball cards when I was a kid, as the opposite is true for OPC/Topps baseball releases. I didn't get very far with that one!
