In June of 1979, the McDonald’s fast-food chain changed the game forever by introducing a form of kids’ meal called the “Happy Meal.” The Happy Meal typically features a toy along with the meal to coincide with a TV show, film or event. For a lot of us, the moment of opening our beloved Happy Meal to reveal the awesome toy we received is a fond nostalgic moment we wouldn’t mind re-living.

As a massive hockey fan, the McDonald’s toys I was naturally most drawn to were the ones with a National Hockey League theme. Here at BarDown, we’re going to take a trip down memory lane to recall some of the best NHL toys.

In 1995, McDonald’s restaurants offered a series of four plush Muppet hockey-playing figures. The Muppet characters included Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy and Animal, each wearing NHL All-Star uniforms with skates, a helmet and a hockey
