Monumental Mailday! Over a year in the making!

From 2013-14 Upper Deck Edmonton Oilers collection, I have FINALLY finished one of my monumental emblems! What is a monumental emblem, you ask?

They're manufactured patches, when placed together, make up an entire Oilers logo. Upper Deck used 19 all-time great Oilers, 4 young superstars from the current team, and Justin Schultz!

There are 24 different players in total, and 24 different pieces. Each player is available as each piece. They fall at a rate (I think??) of roughly 2 every three boxes (at least it was something really close to that) so with how many combinations there are, it's nearly impossible to pull what you need. I actually had to do the swap in / swap out game quite a bit to get this far.

As a note - if anyone else is working on one of these, I've got lost of spares. Most are on eBay (off and on) but would be happy to trade them away. Would trade them straight up for Ranfords from this set.... I'm working on a second one, but just Ranford!

Doing the rough math, I'm guessing there are about 15 copies of each piece, for each player. So.... if you simply wanted a Wayne Gretzky piece, and didn't care which piece it was, there's roughly 360 of them out there. It shouldn't be that tough.

Getting down to the last one or two, and getting that specific piece of that specific player (to do one piece from each player, as I wanted to do) was very tough.

I was actually in a holding pattern, where I needed either Gagner or Hopkins, and they had to fill the spot where I current have Ranford or Anderson. Was looking for months to get one or the other piece (I had Gagner & Hopkins both where the Hopkins currently sits, and a Ranford in both the spot he's in and where the Anderson is).

Less and less of this stuff is being broken, so pickings are slim on eBay. A Gagner came up (the half the Oil Drop one, that's in the pic now) which is where I had Anderson sitting. I could also get the Anderson for that top corner, so I bought those two pieces and finished, finally!

Of course, almost as soon as I paid for both eBay purchases, a Gagner (for where the Ranford is) came available :)


As far as the chances of finishing off a Ranford: I'm still missing 7 of the 24 pieces. If my numbers are right, there's 15 copies of each.... so it may be a while yet.

I have said this about a lot of things I've collected over the years. Need to frame it, display it better. Something more than sticking it into a box or binder. I think this time around I'm actually going to do it. These look too awesome together not to do something.
