Rumor is a Phaneuf-for-Richards swap fell apart over the weekend.
If I'm running the Oilers, can't get the waiver claim in quick enough.

Someone will take him.
Sure, the 5.75mil is ridiuculous for his production ..... but with 2 Cup in last few years ..... someone like Edmonton would be a fool not to take him*** Main PC - Roberto Luongo ***

I agree that Richards would provide some much needed grit and leadership to the Oilers. Maybe Edmonton could get LA to take on part of his salary too.

I was talking to a few of my friends today and they said no one will claim him with his contract. His production isn't great, but he's playing on the 4th line on a defensive minded team, who really expects him to have great numbers? Is it a coincidence that his numbers dropped as soon as he got to LA? He's usually good for at least a point every other game (outside of this year), and like somebody else mentioned, has won 2 cups. There's at least a handful of teams who'd slot him in the top 6....I just have a hard time believing a team wouldn't claim this guy, even with his cap hit.
Or maybe LA still has a deal in place where they would eat some of his salary, but maybe wanted to see if a team would claim him so they wouldn't have to do so. I'd love to see him in a Rangers uniform, if only we had the space

5 more years at almost a 6 M hit, yikes, stay away! Regardless of Cups, he is just too slow, not too mention small. The biggest reason Not to sign him though, Don't do the L.A Kings any favors!!!!!

Not a chance I claim him as a Flames fan. The contract is crazy and we have a better 20year old center in Monahan. With many skilled centers coming up soon.

as a Sabre fan - I would think about it as that locker room is completely void of leadership. This is a guy that has 2 Cups, been to the finals 3 times, one of 2 players (Jeff Carter) to be on teams that won a series down 0-3. But if the guy is still the guy that partied in Philly, then maybe not.

I think its a very easy for a lot of team to pass on Mike Richards .... like the Flames ..... not at all the direction they are going.
But to teams like Toronto and Edmonton .... he could be exactly the guy they are looking for ( esp. thinking Edmonton in this situation )
