13-14 cup rookie set...too expensive to try to make?
Hi everyone,
I'm back again with another interesting idea. I love the aesthetics and the players all seem good. The only question is would it cost too much? I've already got Mackinnon and Yakupov. I figure the other /99s would probably cost me 2-3k. Then the /249s must be close to another 6-7k!
Let me know your thoughts as I value all of your opinions and love you all!
Matt

I'm not sure if anyone can answer this question but yourself. Is it expensive to spend $10K on a hockey set? For me, definitely. I'm already pissed that I spend $140 on a couple boxes and didn't get anything too special lol. Now, if you're asking if it's worth spending $10K on a Cup set then that's completely different. If I had $100K to play around then sure I'd go for it...that RC class already has some star players.

Not to sure who the stars are, Hertl, Yak and Mac didn't crack 40pts in their second year, and Galchenyuk not much better with 46 pts. Nichushkin is another one at 35 pts in his rookie year, so not sure what is to Great about this class of rookies?
Monahan is doing well, but no where near Crosby in his first 2 years. Only Tarasenko and Johnson have put up all-star numbers, and one of them isn't signing his cards, so...
On the other hand, the NHL is now a 50 pt league, so maybe these guys will be the big names in a few more years, who knows?
My guess is they will be a lot of 50-60 pt guys on average, a Good class of players, but Not great.

If your going to go for it I would wait until 15-16 the cup comes out. Everyone will be selling off their old /99 in order to get their hands on a mcdavid, might be able to find some good deals then?

I'd continue to pickup the cheap /249 ones right now, but for any of the 'bigger' names, definitely wait until McDavid fever takes over.Collect what you like. Simple.

You mentioned every overrated player....
Btw, every class will be worse than this because the NHL is complete garbage were no one can score...you think mcdavid will score 120 points. ..??? lol
Just another 65 point player...
Next class will be all hype and bunch of more 50 point players
Strome
Bjugstad
Mrazek
Toffoli
Granlund
Barkov
hamilton
And plenty more I'd rather have than the ones mentioned....
All cup rookies are cheap except /99 ' s anyway...
For guys like tarasenko and Johnson just wait and you'll get for $40 later...
I probably have about 35% of the set done now...
