Twice-paralyzed hockey player is on the road to find a cure
MIAMI — Tom Smith used to skate “like his hair was on fire,” according to his former hockey coach. He played for Team Massachusetts, and NHL scouts noticed his speed. But then, with lightning quickness, his life changed. In a bizarre twist of fate, he was twice paralyzed in separate hockey accidents in 2008 and 2009.

“I loved hockey,” says the former Boston Bulldogs (Junior A) forward. “But hockey didn’t love me back.”
