Question for Player Super Collectors, and/or those that aspire to be...

I'm interested to hear from quite a few people on this one.

So, when you are saying "I have 'blank' of 'blank' cards" (inserting numbers for the blanks), what print runs do you count? Is it anything that's not a 1/1 or what method do you use? In my signature, I just have the 1/1s included in there. However, I know that others do break out the 1/1s.

Just looking for thoughts and opinions!

    -Kin

Clutterbuck and Stempniak have 64, and 77 1/1's including printing plates respectively so I do not include those in my percentage. However anything that is not a 1/1 gets included

I have on my signature a percentage with and a percentage without 1/1's. Every player is a little different; some players have a lot of 1/1's while others have very few. I also have ran into issues on these databases, as there're 1/1's that they don't list; Especially printing plates. I might even change it to an overall total and then list specifically the number of 1/1's that are included.

Now that being said I have issues with the non 1/1 count. In my list/data base of a player (beckett/scf etc) they randomly list some show cards. Now they are random at best; Extremely incomplete and impossible to know for certain. I have them included for now, but as I write this, I'm gonna get rid of them :)

I don't include 1/1s in my count. If there weren't so many plates out there (and show stamps) an the only 1/1s were cards like the one that's my avatar - I'd probably include them in the count. That isn't the case, so I don't.

For the record: SCF lists 912 cards of Bill Ranford. That isn't quite correct (there's a couple that don't exist that are listed, and that note is simply made) but I don't get too hung up on what the percentage is that the system shows for me....

Of the 912 cards listed: 118 of them are 1/1s. That leaves 794 cards. Of those I have 758 (along with 33 1/1s).

Of the 36 cards I'm missing.... 4 don't exist (they are correctly part of checklists, but the cards were never made) so I would tell you my percentage is 758/790, or 96%

I've gotten away from the percentage and just post the absolute numbers. Easier, and doesn't have the room for error with new set updates, possible omissions & errors, etc.

I don't go after 1/1's but for printing plates, or nameplate letters I might include 1 of each in the count,
1 plate rather than all four.
1 letter from Lindros rather than all seven.

No matter what source you use, its almost impossible to come up with a complete list. Its better if you are only looking for newer cards, but older cards is ridiculous. SCF only lists 84 cards for the California/Oakland/California Golden Seals. Beckett listed somewhere in the 100s (cant remember exactly), and the TradingCardDB only listed 264. I have identified 336 so far, and I know I am missing a few of the newer (post 2000) releases. Also, I have identified more than a couple cards listed as belonging to them who were actually on other teams. If you are tracking a current player, you have to pay attention to release schedules, because SCF posts some releases relatively quickly, but others take much longer.

I think listing 1/1s is disingenuous to collectors. Even with Ebay, the chances of of ever finding a 1/1 are very slim. Sure, you see them online alot. But if you actually ever count the numbers, I would bet it's less than 25%-30% that ever make it to the market (if that much). You cant hold a collector hostage because he doesn't have cards that never make it to the market. I would add them as a seperate category, kinda like extra credit. And btw, Tomas Hertl has 86 1/1s listed in SCF, and I know with the number of plates out there, it is way over 100. I have 20 plates, and I have seen plates for at least 14 different cards releases. So even if you assume I have seen all the different types (which I highly doubt), there is a minimum of 56 1/1 plates in circulation. meaning he has a minimum of 142 1/1s in only two years. SCF only lists 6 different sets.

I have 937/1288 (including 64 1/1's not including NTplates) Ryan Keslers going by the SCF inventory manager, and that's the only number I care about. A 1/1 is just another card in the inventory, and Dave (SedinFan) says I have a Manifest-Destiny right to all 1288 of them. Except that he owns at least one of the 1/1's. And Kevin owns two. And Elliot owns one.

That aside, I want all of the rest of them :)

I dont include 1/1's when listing my percentage, but at the same time the % number is just for show for me. Although I want 100% of Bobby Ryan's non 1/1's, between cards that were never made and some of the ridiculous prices being asked for short prints on ebay, I know I will never get there, but will keep trying none the less

    Aidan Dudas NON 1/1 PC 47/47 100%!!!!!

    Wade Boggs PC 359 cards
