And we have a winner :)
I think years of unlicensed cards did hurt the value of many ITG singles, but I'm skeptical how much this "scandal" will.
What percentage of collectors frequent online message boards? In my expanded circle of friends (not including ones that I know via forums like this one, lol) I know 3 guys that collect cards pretty regularly (one drops $1000s on product a year), and 2 that collect off and on (get really into it for 6 months, then not at all for 12, etc). That's in addition to me.
Of those 5, three of them participate in online group breaks, but they don't frequent message boards. The other 2 don't do anything online.
They might know about this ITG issue via conversation with me - but I would think they are like the VAST majority of collectors, and don't do anything like SCF online.
That doesn't make anything right, and is a case of "ignorance is bliss", but I suspect the long term effects of this will be negligible.
If some cards that were /5 are now /7... if some that were /10 are now /15.... if a bunch of limited base sets & parallels aren't as limited as they're supposed to be.... most people will never know the difference.

I've been having some fun making some trades. Gonna be a few pretty cool show & tell threads coming up in the next few days.
As mentioned previously, it'll be the O Canada stuff that largely gets retained. But the rest is going well. Helps to be dealing cards of the best goalie in the world.Habs fan and collector! Main PC's: Carey Price, Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovsky, and of course...

If everyone is purging and the value going down, this seems like the worst time to jump ship and sell off my ITG cards...if anything, I still plan to try and finish my 04-05 franchises game used chase.
This whole debacle doesn't make me enjoy the ITG cards/sets I have any less. An amazing memorabilia piece doesn't change if the print run does; and when you're talking the vintage guys, a Vezina game used skate piece, whether it is said to be out of 2 or 5 or 25 but now may actually be double that, is still a piece of history in your hand.
I'm not saying I'm okay with what has transpired; I am most certainly not. I'm just saying...for anyone looking to dump their ITG cards and have a few from 04-05 franchises, hit me up. :-)

I keeping all of mine. At least I know it's authentic game worn material and not fake and/or photoshoot garbage like some other companies are guilty of doing.

The Vezina game used skate is probably just one of Dr. Price's old shoes...:P

Sorry, I meant to question how do you know that the ITG stuff is legit without a doubt. I mean this company just did a real screw job on the collectors who supported them.
I have no proof that this is the case and for the sake of some nice Liut pieces that I have I hope it isn't. However it's becoming clearer that ITG has been a little underhanded and deceitful in its dealings with collectors. From the backdoor entry of "extra" cards into the market to the allegations of using past signatures (a new reason to hate sticker autos) on newer cards any serious collector has to be questioning what else may surface in the weeks or months ahead.

Yeah forsure no doubt, I'm with you on not truly knowing forsure. They did backdoor the collector and did lose a ton of my respect but they've been in the memorabilia game since the late 90's and have been clean since. Integrity is everything though. Though screwing collectors over when you've sold off your business and screwing collectors over WITH an NHL license are two different things.
In ITG's case (similar to Pacific) they dumped everything off rather than destroy the items. If I were in their shoes I'd probably do the same thing. Just being honest. In UD & Topps' case they knowingly screwed over the collector while operating as a licensed business. Both cases are out of greed.
If you look at my signature & avatar (sorry I know they're small images) the Grant Fuhr memorabilia pieces are 100% authentic. I now this because I saw a real authentic 1987 Fuhr game used jersey in person and the emblem pieces are an exact match. Even down to the colours fading or even bleeding. ITG earned their reputation as having legitimate memorabilia. Can I "prove" that? Not really.

Even though this doesn't justify anything, if you're looking for a for-profit company who does everything in the consumer's best interest and is 100% ethical and not completely profit-driven...good luck. But I think the part that upsets people the most is Dr. Price was constantly preaching how "customer focused" he was while constantly putting down his competition for doing the opposite. Then it turns out he was just blowing smoke and is no different than any other businessman.
