Red (Ruby), Green (Emerald), Blue (Sapphire) - Not all cards have all 3 versions, but those are the 3

One card could be the Original Silver Version out of 9 or whatever, and the other could be the Original Gold Version (1/1) and both stamped as a Ruby as they are technically different cards.
If they are both completely identical, for example Silver Quad Patch /9, both stamped Ruby, then I have no idea.

Maybe one is the gold version, originally 1/1

most likely that is the answer as mine is the silver version
okay mystery solved, still kinda odd

I think it says in the description that it's the gold version.

Yeah, says right in the auction 'Gold'.
The Vault stuff can get confusing but to reiterate:
There is a Ruby Version of any card you see in Vault.
If the are two copies of a card, that means in addition to the Ruby, there is also an Emerald
If there are three copies of a card, that means in addition to the Ruby & Emerld, there is also a Sapphire
But this applies to any colour variation of the card too. If there's a Silver /9 and a Gold /1 - There could be (up to) 3 copies of each out there. There is no checklist, so we don't know.
The backs of the cards make Gold vs Silver easy to distinguish. The fronts, sometimes with the foil, it's near impossible.

What if... there were Ruby, Emerald and Sapphire versions of cards that were originally inserted into packs as 1/1's? That would be interesting...

There are all sorts of examples of this already, lol.
I have not seen any "true 1/1" types (Mega Patches, as an example) in these vault releases.... but if there was a card with 9 copies of a Silver version, and 1 copy of a Gold Version, there are lots of cases where 3 Vault versions of each of these 2 cards exist (along with a bunch of show stamps)
