A business-sized envelope (or smaller) up to 2 ounces is US$1.20. Three ounces is US$1.67, and anything over that is over $3.
You can look up prices at: http://postcalc.usps.com/Last edited by Sharky94; 09-30-2015 at 11:41 AM.

really, really easy thing to do (at least this has worked for me).
I've picked up "FreedomForever Stamps" which are good for a single letter, within the USA.
I've always just put two of them on my envelopes, and never had an issue.
Not the most cost efficient (you would do it for a few cents cheaper, by getting the correct postage) but it's easy, you can get those stamps anywhere if you're in the USA.... and if you're asking someone else to buy them, and mail them to you, it's simple for them to remember.

I don't know what you mean by "Freedom Stamps". But first class stamps (a regular one-ounce letter) here are now sold as "Forever" stamps, and they are good for first-class postage Forever (hence the name) no matter what they raise the price to in the future. Those cost 49 cents now, so two of those would not be enough for a regular letter to Canada.

You're right, I should have said "Forever" not "Freedom". Mixing up my F words.
Has the rate (the $1.20) to Canada changed recently? I received one back as recently as June that had two stamps on it. I might have got lucky?? Regardless, sounds like what I said earlier should be disregarded.

Its always possible that the postal employees cant count. Or that they just don't care (more probable). If you have a heavy (ie, more than 1 oz) envelope with more than the regular postage (49 cents), you probably have about an even chance of it getting through. Some PO people probably don't want to mess with having to weigh and then calculate the postage (all for a few cents). I guess they figure if you have more than the normal postage, you had taken the time to figure out what was required. You may get through a lot. But if you get that one dedicated employee, you might not get your envelope back. Depends on how much you like to gamble...
