What to do with pre-2005 star/semi-star base?
Hi,
I have 2 5000 count boxes full of stars and semi-stars from the 90s-early 00s (Gretzky, Hull, Shanahan, Tkachuk, Amonte to give an idea of the range of players). A lot of them are from the 90-91-96/97 era. I don't want to just toss them, as I have over 500 (I think) Gretzky base alone. But this was the era of mass-produced product where base are easy to come by. I'd like to do something with them, but have no idea what to do. Thoughts? Thank you.

I used to sell 200 base cards and a superstar card in a top loader for $5 all day long. Get a cardboard box... I used to call them ice cubes. The kids loved em. Package em up and trade them in at your LCS.

That is a fantastic idea. Sadly, the only place around here recently went out, and even in the Greater Philly area, it's a baseball/football/basketball town when it comes to cards. I'd love to sell these lots at 10-20% of BV (or less) because I just want them used somehow. Otherwise, probably a donation at a hospital if they'll take them.

You can't sell Gretzky base on eBay? I would think 500 of them even junky era stuff would bring in something pretty good. Though the last time I sold base super star lots on eBay was almost 10 years ago so I guess times change.

I used to sell large player/team lots on Ebay in the past, and have been thinking about doing it again. But I hear that selling large lots on Ebay are not good any more due to shipping costs?

If you put together large lots of a lot of star players, you can move them. Especially Gretzky.
I spent time in the last couple of years going through all of my 90s "random" (i.e. not sets) stuff. I pulled out the superstars (Gretzky, Lemieux, Roy, etc) and sent them all to COMC. They don't sell quickly there, but they do sell.
