Vice World of Sports turns back the clock with the hockey trophy you never hear about

It's easy to forget that there's more to hockey than just the chance to play for the Stanley Cup. It may be the highest attainable honor -- outside of an Olympic medal -- in the sport, but it's one very few get the chance to play for, or even win.

Right off the bat it is not the third oldest trophy still competed for. The third oldest might be the Herder Cup presented since 1935 to Newfoundlands Senior Hockey Champions. Of course there may be others as all of the Provinces have Senior Men's Hockey and some of their Provincial and Regional Championships (Especially Quebec and Ontario) that earn them the right to play for the Allan Cup may be just as old or older.

That said it is a cool story.

added note the OHL's J Ross Robertson Cup was originally presented to the top Ontario team in Senior Hockey from 1893 until it eventually ended up as the top trophy for Junio A and then Major Junior for the OHL.
