Xbox 360 Pros: great selection of games, excellent online service, and HD-DVD capable (drive sold separately)
Xbox 360 Cons: Red ring of death (older models), $50 a year for online gaming. Core systems are the cheapest but have no hardrive.
PS3 Pros: Blu-ray player. That is the main reason why I bought mine this week. If you have an HDTV or plan on going HD, this is the best Blu-ray player out there. Built in Wi-fi allows for free online gaming or web browsing.
PS3 Cons: Poor selection of games. No backwards compatibility on 40GB model.
Graphically, they are both about equal. If you just plan on playing video games and not watching high def movies I would go with an Xbox 360 (Premium or Elite).

Gaming-wise if you like sports or first person shooters go to the XBOX 360 due to their exclusive titles and the way they play online.
If you are into mainly RPGs, get the PS3.

The only reason I am considering this as well is for madden, and from my tests and similar reviews I have seen online, the game plays faster/smoother on the xbox.
but then i snap out of it once i see the prices. :)
