Your Tax Dollars Hard At Work...Lining The Pockets Of Iranians, Thanks Obama!
I am not sure exactly how this works, but apparently we are paying Iran to negotiate with us to end their nuclear weapons program.
The Obama administration on Wednesday paid $490 million in cash assets to Iran and will have released a total of $11.9 billion to the Islamic Republic by the time nuclear talks are scheduled to end in June, according to figures provided by the State Department.
Today’s $490 million release, the third such payment of this amount since Dec. 10, was agreed to by the Obama administration under the parameters of another extension in negotiations over Tehran’s contested nuclear program that was inked in November.
Iran will receive a total of $4.9 billion in unfrozen cash assets via 10 separate payments by the United States through June 22, when talks with Iran are scheduled to end with a final agreement aimed at curbing the country’s nuclear work, according to a State Department official.
Iran received $4.2 billion in similar payments under the 2013 interim agreement with the United States and was then given another $2.8 billion by the Obama administration last year in a bid to keep Iran committed to the talks through November, when negotiators parted ways without reaching an agreement.
Iran will have received a total of $11.9 billion in cash assets by the end of June if current releases continue on pace as scheduled.

How is this not stopped by the Power of the Purse in Congress?

The kicker is that July 1 they can just decide to not comply with the agreement and they will already have the money. Add in that Obama is now more pro-Iran than any other politician in our country and we most likely wouldn't do anything about it even if they did.

I would guess they are on the same side as us. I'm sorry if I just caused your head to explode!

I don't like this at all. Seems odd that we'd pay Iran to negotiate with us about their nuclear program.

I just read a bit more about this. It seems that the 4.9 billion figure was not US tax dollars, as the quotes posted sort of elude to, that was given to them. It was money that we froze that belonged to Iran. It seems like the major issue on the republican side is not that they are getting that money unfrozen, it's that they aren't restricting where it's spent. They are worried about it being funneled to terrorist organizations. I get that concern, but it seems like it would be a difficult for us to monitor what they use this money for.
It seems like it's a good faith action to get them to potentially do away with their nuclear program. I'm not sure where I fall on this. I get the risk of this money going to terrorists, but I also get the idea of doing this to get them to take negotiations seriously. Why would anyone speak about anything if they are freezing funds and imposing sanctions.

SMH, but the insurmountable amount of tax dollars that go to the military to continue their nonsense around the world.....yeah, good luck with any conservative to say anything there.

Big shocker. A liberal supporting negotiations with people who want to kill millions of people with a nuke.
