Just browsing through here and thought I would drop a line. Though I collect a single player, Ewing, I have to agree with your stance. While sets do not excite me so to say, all these parallels of Ewing in particular is a frustration. IMO though, something new has popped up the past couple years that is making it even harder, creating cardds and serials of these retired guys. Now instead of 1400 or so cards that MAY have been possible to reach, I may have 1600 or more in the near future. With 1/1, printing plates, etc, I am just going to be happy when I reach the 1000 card status. Thanks for posting your blog.
I have to side with you on this one... set collecting is better from my viewpoint. I miss the good old days. Sometimes, when I read some of the threads about player collecting, I wonder if they realized that card companies will put up any imaginable parallels variations just for the cash grab. (Whether it's on the bay or from an LCS/distributor.)
