Atlanta Thrashers

January 6, 2009: Pittsburgh Penguins

Rate this Entry
It was another embarrassing skate for the Thrashers last night in Pittsburgh.

Didnt really get to see much of the game myself, but here is the recap.

In the first, it was looking as if the Thrashers might be able to pull of the upset. At 17:10, P. Sykora (PIT) scored his 14th goal of the season on the Pittsburgh powerplay. Nothing else happened in the period as the Thrashers tried to tie it going into the first intermission.

The second began with no scoring, with the score still at 1-0. Then, P. Sykora (PIT) scored his second of the contest, 15th on the season at 12:43 to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead. Then at 15:41, S. Crosby (PIT) scored his 16th of the season on the Pittsburgh powerplay to give the Penguins the 3-0 home lead.

Finally, the third period begain, surprisingly, with no Pittsburgh scoring! This time, I. Kovalchuk (ATL) scored his 14th goal on the season at 14:22 on the Atlanta powerplay to cut the lead to 3-1. However, as with most Thrasher game, the lead is far too much to overcome late in the third.

The Thrashers dropped to 13-23 on the season, with their next game on Thursday as they visit the Devils in New Jersey.
