LF info about some 90s series.
Hi. I'm collecting Curtis Joseph cards from the 90s. Have a wantlist.
I collected some in the 90s and resumed the collecting for maybe 5-6 years ago.
There's some cards on my wantlist I've chased with no success and would appreciate any information about these series/parallels.
- 1991-92 Air Canada SJHL #A49
- 1994-95 Pinnacle Masks Promo #MA10
- 1997-98 Pacific Crown Royale Silver #53
- 1997-98 Pinnacle Masks Un-Cut Die Cuts #4
- 1998-99 O-Pee-Chee Chrome Refractors #186
- 1998-99 Pacific Omega Red #228
- 1998-99 Pacific Paramount Ice Blue #227
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 1991-92 Air Canada SJHL #A49: I acquired the card to the right recently. But there's another CuJo card from this minor series. Is one of them a parallel? Which card are more rare?
- 1994-95 Pinnacle Masks Promo #MA10: Contains a hole in the upper right corner. I know Connie "cujofan2000" have the CuJo card, but never seen another one (with any goalie). Must be super rare?
- 1997-98 Pacific Crown Royale Silver #53: Have seen this once but missed it. How rare is this parallel?
- 1997-98 Pinnacle Masks Die Cuts Uncut #4: Never seen. These cards seems very rare?
- 1998-99 O-Pee-Chee Chrome Refractors #186: Never seen a CuJo, but this parallel doesn't seem too expensive or unusual?
- 1998-99 Pacific Omega Red #228: These cards seems cheap. Why have I never seen a copy of this card? Are they really tough to find?
- 1998-99 Pacific Paramount Ice Blue #227: As above. These cards seems cheap. Why have I never seen a copy of this card? Are they really tough to find?

I can provide a little guidance on a couple of these.
Ice Blues were tough pulls for pacific. One or two per hobby box. Additionally, since these hard to pull cards were never chased all that hard and Pacific parallels aren't all that spectacular (just a different color foil), most are going to sit in somebody's super shoe for the rest of eternity.
For the punched mask, Pinnacle/Score promos from shows and what not were punched like this. Going to be tough to find.

97-98 Pinnacle Uncut Mask - Aren't those the oversized cards? If so, they do exist although CuJo seems to be more rare than the others in the set: https://www.worthpoint.com/inventory...s+Joseph+Uncut
98-99 Pacific Omega Red - These are tough, only inserted in retail packs. I don't recall how long I've had the Dafoe, but I don't see them often.

Thanks for the info about Pacific parallels. Are still hopefull to find the paramount ice blue some day.
Suspected that about Mask promo. But would be interested to hear if anyone else ever seen another 94/95 mask promo, because I've just seen the CuJo from Connies CuJo collection.
I think the oversized are called Mask Jumbo, but not sure. With Die Cut Uncut I mean this version:

Not familiar with the expression "retail pack"? What does that mean exactly and where exactly could you buy these packs back in 98/99?

If you look at the packaging of the oversize masks, they're actually called Uncut Masks but now that you've supplied an image, I see what you're talking about. I knew about the Die Cut Masks in 96-97, but didn't realize they were in 97-98 as well. I guess that isn't too much of a surprise since Dafoe wasn't in the set so I didn't pay it too much attention. Good luck hunting that one down, oddballs and rarities - they can be tricky.
The term "retail pack" refers to packs that could be purchased from traditional retail outlets like Target or WalMart. I believe Pacific had a trading card distribution agreement with 7-11 (Convenience Store) in the US in 1998-99.

Bumping this thread to try and get some more answers. Really need some info about the 91/92 Air Canada SJHL cards. What's the difference between the two cards, are one of them base and one a parallell, which is more uncommon?
Would also appreciate more info about the 97/98 Uncut Mask version.
Thanks.
PS. Didn't get any answer when I wrote to Connie (CuJofan)

I assume the only difference is just the text. One says Notre Dame Hounds at the top with the ND Hounds logo at the bottom, while the other has SJHL AllStar printed at the top with the All-Star logo at the bottom with his (I can only assume) #88 All-Star jersey number. Those are the only differences I can obviously spot.
I don't know if a set like that from a long time ago would purposely issue base parallels like we see created today or later in the 90's by established trading card manufacterers. It's more likely an extension of their SJHL "base" set included multiple styles and variations of the same card for the purposes on the SJHL All-Star game at the time. League/Team Issued sets don't often advertise "parallels" per-say, so it's up to us collectors to find these variations to add to our collections as best we can.
As for which one is rarer? Honestly, I have no idea. With an obscure set like that from the 90's, it's almost impossible to say. I would go with your gut. Have you seen more of one than you have of the other? With no print runs availible (I doubt they even kept that on record), it's up to your own cardboard experiences to determine which one is "rarer" than the other.
