Is anyone else really underwhelmed with the last 2 or 3 releases?
Normally there are a few duds spread out during the collecting season, but the last three releases from all three manufactures have had me pretty bored. I have never looked forward to Topps and Score so much!!
Classics is pretty ugly design-wise and as always it is hard to get a decent pull. This is the most interesting of the last few releases. At least there are Cut Autos and some awesome HOF jerseys available.
Topps Magic has been really weak so far and I am not much of a college collector. Although a lot of the guys on the checklist were studs in college, it stinks of a checklist being built around an overstock of sticker autos. Making some chrome or even foil parallels would have livened this product up.
Icons is not only poorly designed, but the "hits" are junk. Manufactured letters and tons of one color jerseys dont do it for me. Somehow worse than last years.
I have been breaking some older product recently at the shop and it is a lot more fun even though I am not getting many hits.
Anyone else bored with 2009??

IMO that's the draw of the product, that it isn't those things.

Topps Magic - Basically the Topps Signature of football. Watered down value.
Classics - A bit dull. No real draws for my taste, just kind of a decent product that's there.
Icons - Out of the breaks I've seen, it is fairly decent, and consistently so. Not spectacular by any means, it just seems to give leveled-off value rather than much of a chance for a stellar box. I'm not as against manufactured patches as many are, I think some of them look nice.

I've been underwhelmed with everything 2009, so I'd have to agree with the OP.

People are so "underwhelmed" with Magic because it's not their cup of tea, but there are many people who love Magic. You said yourself you're not a college collector, so that set wasn't meant for you. People are knocking Magic left and right, but most college or set collectors (ie who the set was designed for) love it.
I am disappointed in Classics...it's usually one of my favorite products, but I'm not a big fan of the design this year. Of course, I wasn't a huge fan last year either though.
Icons and Heroes I never really cared for. I haven't seen Icons, but Heroes actually looks a bit better this year I think.
I did think UD Draft and Bowman Draft were pretty nice sets and made the early products a little better than usual. And I always enjoy Elite too.
