Parallels and other things
So, starting back in August, I had to sell off my Tyler Myers collection. Got a pretty penny for them, but I miss them

Then I had to sell off a huge chunk of my Miller and Perreault PC's...

So, now I have a downsized collection of some of my favorites, and I think I just came to realize, after reading a few threads on clarification of cards...
I don't like parallels.
I mean, I have a Ryan Miller Crown Royale Rookie Rainbow, and it looks kind of cool, and they are his rookie cards, but, say a crazy 08-09 Artifacts Parallels rainbow - ain't happening and have no interest... going forward, I think I am going to stick to trading for PC cards that I have an interest in, not just any cards of a particular player or team...know what I mean? Curious to know others thoughts on this.

I don't collect parallels either too much money to spend on cards just because they are stamped xx of xxxx. I only collect hard signed auto's, and am slowly creeping into nicer game used. If you did the same for your Miller and Perreault PC's you would be chasing less cards and only really having ones you genuinely enjoy. Just my two cents though..
Cheers,
Mike

Well, that is just it. Chasing all those cards....yikes...and the ones I have right now I love...there are a few I wish I didn't sell, but I will try to get some of those back. But not the parallels I sold...I really don't care that I will never get my 08-09 OPC Premier Perreault base /5 back...it means nothing to me...

I like what you said.
For five years, I went after almost all Patrice Bergeron parallel cards I could. Right now, I am seriousley considering breaking my Bergeron PC and I know that these Parallels will be a tough sale...
But I have to admit that I really like collecting Nordiques parallels (there is not enough on the market to drive me crazy!) and it's always fun to add a Habs /100 card to my ever growing collection (even though I decided lately that I will only trade for these and not buy 'em anymore).
I also had fun in the past years trading for /100 or less Hall of Famers parallels cards. I am now seriously thinking liquidating these to buy hard sign autos instead.
After six years in the hobby, where I consider myself a mid-end collector (no The Cup for me!), I guess I am slowly becoming a high-end collector...I collect the following:
- Vintage (Stars and RC)
- 2010-11 ITG Decades (Auto, GU, bases)
- Stars from the 1980s (in modern sets)
- Montreal Canadians Legends (bases, inserts, parallels, #, RC, Auto, GU)
- Montreal Canadiens actual players (inserts, parallels, #, RC, Auto, GU)

My PC guy was playing smack-dab in the middle of the Pacific parallel days. Nowadays, it is a tough, expensive venture to get the remaining ones off of my list, but there's a special feeling I get when I complete a rainbow.
Having said that, if you no longer feel the excitement over a complete rainbow with parallels and the lot, then collect like JHEYKID said and go for only nice specimens. Your collection should make you happy, and if parallels do not do that for you, then collect a new way. That's why I abandoned the Aebischer PC, not because things were expensive, it just was not fun for me to get cards of a player that I did not particularly love to watch.
Because I am a completionist, and love parallels, my Irbe PC will be shooting towards the 100% completion rate...though that is impossible due to my knowledge of some items in others' collections which I would need.

This post sums up my opinion of 'em exactly. While I know I'll never get 100% of the Osgood checklist, I'll keep chasing, because perhaps eventually those cards I'm missing MAY turn up somewhere...

The collection is headed to just that...pieces that I love, not just 'any' card of Miller or Perreault...and any others I really like...like I traded for a cheap nice auto and game used cards of Marty Biron...just cause...he was a great dude when he played for Buffalo, and hell, who didn't love Marty?!

There are certain parallel sets that I'd be willing to chase because I think they look cool or they are really nice. But most parallel sets are ridiculous and not worth the time and effort to put together. Chase what makes you happy and the cards you love! :)
