HOBBY forum or BUSINESS Forum?
So far today I am 5 for 5.
5 PM's sent regarding cards I would like to trade for from the box break section.
5 replies telling me that cards are for sale only.
So my question is this: Are people on here sick of seeing so many people using our hobby as a way to make money rather than an actual hobby?
I could be barking up the wrong tree here, but I'm hoping I'm not alone.

I think both is just fine! We as collectors in our hobby like to trade but the other party may not have anything of interest so we like to sell or buy whichever because we like to get paypal for stuff that we collect. Like right now I'm looking to sell a couple cards for cards of teams/players I collect!!

To 1st off answer your question:
- Im not really sick of it, as these people provide me the singles I want without having to break anything. They will spend $80 - $120 per pack of this stuff, and I will pick out what I want at a fraction of the price. Im sure I could make a pretty good pack for that price even if I bought right now. Breaking wax is addicting, and like anything addicting .... people sometimes go over there limit ... which is why some people feel they need to sell rather than trade.
I think its mainly because Ultimate is new ... and the people that are in a rush to bust boxes / cases, really only bust to flip while the product is as hot as it can be. Not sure why anyone does this if theyre not looking for PC items ... but to each their own.
Im not going for anything numbered 1/1 from this set ..... so I wont even start searching for Ultimate stuff for atleast a week or 2.
Give it some time, these eventually will get into "traders" hands and not fetch top dollar if you want to work out trades. I dont think anyone busts case(s) to make traders ....everyones looking for that 1 hit to push their purchase into a profit.
I find it easier to deal with money in most cases .... I would rather sell than trade simply because its easier to move money then bait. Its a hassle right now trading with most people .... and I think many here think this way. Some people are easy to deal with .... some people are not.
On a side note, the Roy Complete went out today. Thanks again for the easy TRADE =P

LOL.
Yours went out today also.
Part of what makes this a hobby for me is the thrill of the chase. It's not about money.
Buying my PC cards on ebay doesn't really give me the sense of accomplishment that trading or busting does.
I find it nicer to be able to say that I have acquired through busting packs/boxes and trades only:
15 Patrick Roy autos
5 Patch autos
3 Jersey autos
18 Patch cards
68 Game used Jersey cards,
6 Game used stick cards
4 Pad cards
6 glove cards
2 Patrick Roy RC's (Topps and OPC)
1 Complete Package card
over 400 inserts (many worth $40+ apiece and over a dozen worth $100+)
and hundreds of Roy base.
That gives me a sense of accomplishment.
Just having enough money to drop $1000+ a month buying my PC cards on ebay isn't really much to be proud of for me.

you missed the concept, it ruins the fun of the hobby in a way is what he is saying because nobody wants anything but money. I think that is the point at least partially, and it is frustrating sometimes.

I used to collect extremely rare multicolored rookie patches from The Cup so I mainly preferred to sell an extra cards I had from my case breaks. Chances were pretty good that no one usually had what I was looking for, as they were far and few in between so I sold 99% of the time. Trading for me never worked out that well as it just added a biggerr mess od cards that I had no interest in. I was really picky what was going in to the pc as most of the time members didn't have what I was looking for....so I just sold.

Yeah it gets old but also at least you get the chance to get the cards. It seems like the ppl with all the money dont really collect anymore, they just buy boxes and sell it off.

I don't do too much breaking because the odds of me getting the cards I actually want are so slim that I might as well save my money and buy the cards I actually want.
They win and I win!
I do understand your frustration however.

Selling for money makes perfect sense.
Especially if you're a player collector like myself. Most people don't have cards of the player(s) I'm looking for that I don't already have, so selling is really the only route if someone wants my card.
And in another sense, maybe someone just wants the money to buy a PC card that they have been eyeing instead of what a person may have.
I think people just read too much into the monetary aspect of the hobby some times.
