New York Islanders Fate Decided Tomorrow
August 1st , 2011 is an extremely important day for the future of the New York Islander franchise. There is a vote that is going to take place in Nassau County that is going to ask the tax payers to vote yes on a multipurpose arena that would replace the Nassau County Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
If the referendum does pass, the residents of Nassau County, NY will be on the hook for building a $350 Million Dollar arena. This would ensure that the Islanders would remain in Nassau for the long term.

As much as I would love to see it, in this economy ... it's going to get voted a NO
Islanders better start working on Brooklyn soon for a new home.

I would hate to see the Islanders leave, they have history, much more than some other teams and it would be a shame for them to leave the Islander (or even Brooklyn)

I feel that the Islanders would be better off if they were to relocate. Three teams in the NYC area is one too many, plus a shrinking economy just doesn't bode well.

Heard not a lot of people went to vote. So if only Isles fans went, then this should pass.

'No' votes hold early lead in Coliseum referendum
By Andrew Hackmack
With nearly half of the votes tallied for the referendum to borrow $400 million to build a new Nassau Coliseum, "no" votes have the lead.
With about 45 percent of precincts reporting, there were 33,526 "no" votes to 24,553 "yes" votes.
Complete results are not expected until at least 11 p.m. After the results are announced, New York Islanders owner Charles Wang and County Executive Edward Mangano are expected to speak at Nassau Coliseum.

Because the reality is the Islanders are only 30% of the Coliseums total revenue, so would only make sense for the community to share in the cost of the building. Too many short sited seniors in the area, the team needs to move on and find a new home.
