First break
So, I collected as a kid in the late 80's and early 90's but never since then. A buddy in my fantasy league got me excited about cards again and in the last couple days I've broke 4 boxes. I'm still working on cataloguing everything in a spreadsheet(is there a better way?) but wanted to get my first post out.
From my 2011 Topps Series 2 hobby box and jumbo box

Great break so far! I catalog my cards by putting them into boxes and promptly forgetting everything I have!

Hey Grey,
My story of collecting is similar to yours. What got me back into collecting last year was Topps Allen & Ginter. If you are into the retro stylings of cards and unique subjects, definitely give Allen & Ginter a shot. I attribute my re-awaking to A&G!!!! I thank Topps for this.
Now that I am an adult with a little more in my wallet I also enjoy the high end / high risk type of products like Topps Tribute and Sterling. I came to realize, that while I still have all my WORTHLESS late 80's and early 90's cards (thousands upon thousands) that I don't want to collect or have to deal with a million base cards. So that's another reason why I enjoy the high end stuff, less is more and cards are delicious. However, due to my addiction of Allen & Ginter I do have a few large boxes full of those base and parallel sets that I am waiting to go through once I can take 2-4 weeks off from work to start building some sets.
Have fun and take a look at A&G if you haven't already!!!

Great advice KG, I'm probably going to settle into one series to try to get base set from and then higher end stuff like you mentioned. Might even make it a different base set each year to make it interesting. I enjoyed the little higher end Bowman Platinum and plan on trying their Sterling as well.
The Ginter's do look awesome and that's probably the next box I'll try. I like the idea of the non sports cards and the look is great.
Thanks for the reply!
