    Angry UD Redemption Lag

    Here's a vent because maybe someone on here feels the pain.

    I bought my first ever box to start a new hobby of card collecting about 4 months ago. Started simple with Series 1.
    Last pack in the box...... Redemption for the 20th Anniversary Sidney Crosby Auto /90!!! If I was wishy washy about starting the hobby that sealed it for me.
    So months later, no card. Called UD today "Sidney Crosby IS in stock and should be shipped out to you in the next couple of weeks."
    They didn't tell me it wasnt in stock before but I was patient. Now confirmation that it is in stock and yet it will STILL be a couple of weeks before it is sent out.
    I just don't get it. How does it take so long? I realize Sid probably hadnt signed cards in sometime, but if they have it now how could it take this long to process?
    Garbage!

    I'm pretty sure that I've seen these cards live on the market - I know that UD moved their redemption facility a couple months back, and that partially explains the delay, but that move was finalized some time ago so there's really no excuse for the card not to have been shipped out already.

    This bothers me too, especially when I know that the cards are live. I've got a few on which I'm waiting where I know the cards are live, and I don't understand why it should take months to simply grab the cards from their stock, place them in an envelope, and mail them out. Waiting on the athletes who are allegedly "committed to sign" is understandable, but waiting on in-stock items gets old quickly.

    At the same time, I don't like to take things too hard when I've been waiting months because I know there are others who wait for two years only to be told that the card will not be made......and then waiting on a replacement with their fingers crossed.

    Just because cards are live doesn't mean Crosby has returned the full batch of /90. In this case, UD would be fulfilling redemptions on a first redeemed, first served basis. A lot of people have been waiting on Sid redemptions lately. Ever since his injury it would seem he has stopped the majority of his signing.

    Also, as others have pointed out, UD did recently move some facilities from CA to NC so that could be part of the reason for the delay. Another might be that all of the attention the past few months was on releasing Cup. Whatever the reason, 4 months isn't that long at all but I'm sure if you keep calling customer service again you'll probably get some more answers. Just be nice about it. The guy on the phone helping you might not be the same guy processing redemptions.

    This right here. I have had something similar happen with UD and the fact of the matter is they don't receive all of the cards back at the same time...I was told most of the time when they receive any amount of the cards they list them as being in stock.

    On the bright side of everything, 4 months is nothing...especially for a Crosby auto. We all knew certified wasn't going to actually have dual Crosby autos, but it still took Panini nearly 8-9 months to do something about it. Stay patient...it could be a lot worst, especially with a Crosby auto.

    I currently have three Crosby auto's in UD's redemption web. I don't really blame UD for the wait on these, as he's not signed much since he was injured. I asked for a replacement for the one, and will ask for a replacement on the next one because I'm just interested in the sale value. If it's not a PC item you may want to think about a replacement. It's a gamble, but I've never done bad with Upper Deck and replacements, so I don't think twice about doing it. I will definitely hold out for the Scripted Swatches from this years Cup though!!
