A lot of time now the grading companies dont give strip cards numbers anymore, they just verify authenticity due to the fact that they are hand cut.
This one is real nice, although the printing is off-register, not sure how that would drop the grading.
To me, this is at least VG-EX though, but could grade higher as i am a tough grader.

By the way, Ruth only pitched in a total of 3 games for the Yankees in 1920 and 1921 combined. I believe he also got a pitching appearance in 1930 or so. The Yankees knew what they had there, and used him as a outfielder.

Good point. I thought at first maybe that's how they were supposed to be printed, but looking at others that doesn't appear to be the case. So yeah, it would probably drop the grade some.

Great card. If it were mine, though, I'd wonder why it were only graded "A" and not assigned an actual grade. Usually, something that is graded authentic by SGC, especially in that good of condition, means that it has been altered in some way (or could be because of being hand-cut and they're saying that's the same as trimmed). If you send it into PSA, I would suggest not breaking it out of the case first. Best of luck and great card!

It doesnt seem too bad, but the one in the link looks really good too. Im not sure if they will grade it or not because its a strip card and they are very picky about how it was cut.

Yea i saw the printing and looks to be off, the one graded in the link was off too, but not horribly bad. I just don't wanna spend the money to send it in and then they tell me they wont grade it. I wish i could get a definite answer from a grading company before i send it in. They all just tell me to send it in and find out.

Yes it is hand cut and i have been told some they grade and some they dont, i guess it just depends on how its been cut? Do you think if i got ahold of someone and sent them a scan they would be able to tell me if they would actually grade it?

Have you asked them what their stipulations are on that set? Maybe it falls within their guidelines for grading? Either way. I love that card. :)

SGC told me if its cut short they will just authenticate it, and not grade it, but could not tell me why this one didnt have a number grade. Beckett told me the same thing, and PSA just told me to send it in, but i only was able to speak with the normal customer service person, and im not sure she knows exactly what i was asking with the strip cards. she just said send it in. I love it too, its in my top 3 for favorites, and i dont normally collect baseball. But its a really cool card to have being the best player and how old it is.

Ahh. Gotcha. Looking at the Ty Cobb in that link, it looks like yours may be a bit short, so maybe that's why they didn't give it a grade.
I'm sorta on the fence about how grading companies handle older hand cut cards (at least cards that HAD to be hand cut). They should grade them regardless IMO. I know they don't because people would cut them now, but c'mon.... They were hand cut to begin with so what does it matter? haha. As long as the borders are a certain width maybe, it shouldn't matter. At least to me. I'm sure many more would argue that point. :D
