PHK-AL, or anyone for that matter, can you explain the discrepancy? This shield is not from a 88/89 blackhawks sweater

I bid on that Savard shield, but I wasn't sure how it could be from from an actual game-worn jersey. My assumption is that it's from a jersey that Savard wore at a game... as a Blackhawks Ambassador... not as an active player.

I understand that...but Panini is telling us it is from a 88-89 Blackhawks sweater.

It doesn't take an expert to tell use that the sweater was recent jersey. Denis Savard hasn't played in ages and the NHL logo was different pre-lockout. The "NHL" goes across the other side from top left to bottom right, not like right now where it is opposite with a thicker trim.

More likely they mixed it another jersey or put a "game-used" jersey from their ambassador game.

The only reason I bring this up is because a Panini representative is telling us it is from the 88-89 season. There is no doubt this is a recent jersey. But, if Panini is telling us it is from the 88-89 season...it makes you wonder where they get their information, let alone their methods of authentication...because this is obviously not from the 1988-89 season.

Obviously Panini representative made a mistake, perhaps just mis-spoke. Or as you suggest, the company itself just may not have the attention to detail, or accurate documentation.

Bottom line, we all know the shield isn't from a sweater Savard wore as a player. I wanted to see the back of this particular card. Did it say "game worn"? If it did, it's playing lose with the wording, and misleading. If it said "event worn", I'd give Panini a pass on it. Since that would be the appropriate wording, in my mind, for a jersey worn as an ambassador.

Can anyone else comment on these shield cards in general (I don't have any ). Are there some of them out there from rookies that wore the jeresys at a photo shoot, for example? Do they say "event worn"? Are there similar shield cards in the same product that have different wording, saying "game worn"?

Bump back to the top. Anyone have any opinions on this? I was trying to PM a Panini rep...but they don't take PMs apparently. Panini, can you tell us why this is supposed to be from a 88-89 sweater, but obviously is not?

We create account that do not take PM for company representative and for a good reason. I think this thread is one example. If the representative wish to post, he will like he did already. This site is not the way to communicate with a card company. You have to use the company means to reach them.

This is SCF forum site and we are glad to have company that take some time to respond. When it come to the exact provenance of item, normaly company do not answer these quetions and I was even surprise he did but was very nice of him to do it. Now if you want to contact the company, call them or write deirectly to them via their site, would be my suggestion to you.

I completely understand why accounts without PM capabilities exist. I just was hoping that the discrepancy could be solved here for any potential buyers/people interested in this shield card. I know that the customer service process with Panini is rather slow and thought this would be a great way to alert them to maybe a flaw in their Authentication Process or misinformation from someone they may have obtained the jersey from. Not only are we the people shelling out big bucks for products that may contain these cards, but Panini's reputation for Authenticity is on the line too...I thought, just like the collector, that they definitely would have a vested interest in this and would like to clear up the misinformation.

Additionally, I was looking for general information from collectors who could clear up what exactly it says on the back of some of these Dominion veteran shield cards. I am in the market for a shield card and want to rule out any products where the shields may not actually be "game worn."
