    THN.com Top 10: Untradeable contracts

    BY: Adam Proteau

This week’s THN.com Top 10 looks at the league’s toughest contracts to trade. Now, that doesn’t mean each deal listed here is untradeable. Indeed, some people thought the contracts of Brian Campbell and Dany Heatley couldn’t be moved, but both players changed teams this past off-season.

That said, for a variety of reasons – cap hit or length of term chief among them – some contracts are much harder to move than others. Here are the 10 toughest we’ve identified.

    10. Patrik Elias, Devils

Don't know about DiPietro having the worst contract. It's not great, but the Islanders have to get some cap somehow and it's not like free agents are running to play there. It's only 4.5 a year, not great but not worthy of #1.

#3 is an interesting scenario because a year from now Gomez could potentially become one of the most tradeable contracts. His salary drops down to $5.5M next year and to $4.5M in 13-14. Cap hits of course do not change so if there's a team that's struggling to meet the floor, they can take on Gomez at a salary "discount" while still being tagged for the full $7.37M cap hit.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

    This.

The front loaded contract, in this system, will begin to pay off. Being able to trade large cap hits that are worth far less to service from year-to-year is how the low revenue teams will reach the floor, without breaking the bank.

And then the Canadiens can have Lecavalier and everything will be roses and sunshine in Montreal.

    So there goes #9.

Elias has 3 Rings and has never wanted to play anywhere else but for the Devs, He and Marty will be raised to the rafters. He will retire a Devil and they will pay him admirably to do so.

Now let's deal in reality. Horcoff is made of glass and is a Bum. That's like paying Jason Arnott the same dough. Kings are notorious over-payers. That contract is worse than Vishnevskys.

Di-Pietro is a Management error on behalf of Mr. Stupid himself, Mike Milbury. Nobody signs a player for like......Lol.

Gomez was never worth 2 Mil a season in NJ even with those Cups, only Sather with too much money started this insane ball rolling out of control.

Malone will never be anything more than a Journeyman. Good for him in securing his future with at least 7-8 Mil in overpayment over 5 years.
