11/12 opc retro backs?
Does anyone know why some 11/12 opc retro rookie/legends have a different shade of gray on the backs, some are light, some are darker. Is it because one is hobby and one is retail, I have bought both. The base retro, 1 to 500 are all the lighter shade though.

I have only bought hobby and I have different shaded backs as well. I think just the legends/rookies are different though.

My base retro from hobby and retail are ok, all the same lighter shade of gray, but I do have doubles of rookies/legends that the backs are not the same. I brought this up in a recent trade about the lighter/darker backs, and the person didn't want the cards because of this, I can understand that, I'm fussy with my cards, even the backs, just trying understand why they are like that.

I would put this down to differences in the paper / card stock used to produce the cards. I don't think it was an intentional decision or attempt to create "variants"

Retro's 1 thru 500 are uniform in color on the back, it's just the sp's 501 thru 600 that have a color difference, so the paper/card stock should affect the whole set.

The paper used for the SPs may have come from another roll which would account for subtle differences. I'm figuring the base (1-500) cards were printed. Then all the SPs (501-600) were printed. Could have been a different roll, different stock, or even a different press. Not saying I know for sure, just throwing out possibilities.

Thank you for theories on this, all I know is, that if your fussy on the back of the card as you are on the front (by the way, the blue borders on the front of the base are not uniform to), if could affect a trade like it did with me.
