I'm not so sure about Certified either. I was surprised with the number of redemptions I have seen so far, for what will likely be sticker autos. I would have thought after last year, they would have tried to minimize the redemptions before they release it.

I open only one box and there was one freshmen auto Hard Signed and one redemption freshmen auto, so maybe the plan is to have them all hard signed but I could not tell for sure.

The silver lining to the thread title - something can only be a disappointment if it comes with great expectations.

While the redemptions from last year were a grievous error, they're not in the product this year. It *shouldn't* have much bearing outside of the usual "I'll never buy Panini again" sentiment that these things can sometimes engender.

That said, there are a lot of those hideous white cards in this year's release. Every Carey Price autograph is a redemption. PK Subban is a redemption for his autos. While we Habs fans know that both players are good signers and the cards will get done, when the big hit for your PC is a decoy with a sticker on it promising an auto in the future it does limit the extent to which you want to purchase the product.

I've been a big fan of Panini since they came on board, but I can certainly understand why some people are getting increasingly frustrated with the way things are getting done--or in several cases, not done.

It's a good-looking product, absolutely, but I think many are leery of redemptions and fearful of not getting full value for their breaks.

Yeah Price should sign but redemption of him, I think it's a first...

I got a base of him and I kind of like the cards. Someone pointed out to me I might have got a hot box and that again they did the same thing that they did with score and image would be different in these boxes. I did not have time to look at the checklist but if this mean a set not listed, it will be a pain to manage with the inventory card image we collect and how do we know if they uploaded the right one. I kind of hate that panini start to do such things. Do we really need 2 version of the base card and how do we know wich is wich. More confusion for future collector that will see a image and it won't match their card number...

But I can't complain on my box. I pulled all these :

2011-12 Certified Champions Materials Prime #4 Patrice Bergeron Attributes: Mem, S# /25
2011-12 Certified Totally Purple #110 Derick Brassard Attributes: S# /10
2011-12 Certified Fabric Of The Game Jersey Number Prime #136 Nikolai Kulemin Attributes: Mem, S# /10
2011-12 Certified #185 Brandon Saad RC Attributes: AU, RC
2011-12 Certified #194 Tomas Kubalik RC Attributes: AU, RC
2011-12 Certified Dual Materials Mirror Red #5 Ryan Miller Attributes: Mem, S# /150
2011-12 Certified Fabric Of The Game #39 Ryan O'Reilly Attributes: Mem, S# /399
2011-12 Certified Gold Team #2 Daniel Sedin
2011-12 Certified Masked Marvels Materials #11 Roberto Luongo Attributes: Mem, S# /99
    2011-12 Certified #170 Joe Nieuwendyk Attributes: S# /500
    2011-12 Certified #167 Jeremy Roenick Attributes: S# /500
    2011-12 Certified #163 Johnny Bucyk Attributes: S# /500
    2011-12 Certified #156 Joe Mullen Attributes: S# /500

Plus the name on the hit are pretty good, so I should not have issue moving most cards.

I also got the base of Carey Price, P.K. Subban, Roy immortal, Gionta and Halak for my PC. Now I need to figure out if the images are different because I will need the regular ones. I think I will PM bauldie, the OPG manager to see what he know on these hot boxes and 2 images of the same cards.

I actualy have a hot box and the difference is not the player but the back that is like a flash in silver. This is why I was liking the base cards they look so much different with that:

So now I need all the regular for my base pull!

Even the brassard is a variation /10 so does this mean there are 10 regular and ten variation??? I am a bit lost with how panini do things this year...

yeah way to many set to start with. SPX has 22 sets and certified last year we list over 100, this year 78 and now we might have to create new set for the variation in the SCF Inventory. I mean I like to be surprise but not confiused...

Panini has gone down hill bigtime!

Bought some last year, still have outstanding redemptions from Nov 2010.
This years cards do not look worthy of the $100+ tag on it and most of the boxes seem to be hugely disappointing.
Compared to SPA the set looks cheap.

I used to buy about a box of Panini product per week from 2008 to current. I noticed last year it started turning ugly when the redemptions started piling up every box and a half, plus I was getting shorted a hit per two boxes on avg! Now ive noticed this year, Ive pulled a redemption in almost evrery fricken box! And the hits SUCK! havnt pulled a damn thing worth the price of the boxes Im buying. Im really disappointed in the box of Absolute I bought for 150.00!! Im almost done with them.
Seems like ever since Panini took over Donruss it went south.
They moved and could never get around to answering questions or filling quality assurance and redemption claims.

Hot boxes have the following base parallels:
    Totally Certified (non-numbered)
    Totally Certified Purple #'d /10
    Totally Certified Black 1/1

These cards can only be pulled in the hot boxes.

absolutely! waist of money when your most likely not even gonna see your hits for atleast a year! who wants that? If the redemptions were of something sick maybe, but just for rookies who you want to unload sometimes when there hot right now and not two years later!

I will have to agree with most of you. While I havent busted a box (6 packs is close enough) it was REALLY bad to get "2" redemptions in a single box. While I generally dont mind redemptions, I dont appreciate getting more than one from a single box.
