Kennedy: Can Fleury catch Brodeur's win total?
BY: Ryan Kennedy
PITTSBURGH – Lost among the throngs of reporters proselytizing over Sidney Crosby’s performance in his 2011-12 debut (and rightly so – I was doing it too) was the fact Penguins netminder Marc-Andre Fleury posted a shutout in the 5-0 whitewashing of the New York Islanders. And though ‘Flower’ was not as busy as his New York counterpart Anders Nilsson, the Pittsburgh goalie made several tough stops, particularly in the third period when his team got into penalty trouble.

Probably not. But if he does average 35 wins per season like he has been then I wouldnt rule it out

Also keep in mind we are now in an era where a win is handed out every game. It will take a lot to line up to break Marty's record including longevity and consistent winning, but I never say never.

CAN he? Yes, certainly. But I'd put the odds on the low side of 5%.
People can't just assume the Penguins will remain a juggernaut for the next decade-plus. That's not how today's NHL works. They'll hit rough patches, and Fleury's win totals will suffer as a result.
He has a reasonable chance of challenging Roy if health and consistency remain on his side, but passing Brodeur will require an extraordinary amount of luck.

I love how the guy acts like averaging 35 wins for 13 years (Fleury would be 40) is no problem. This is clearly a person who has never played a sport in his life.
Statistically, he can do it, realistically, it's doubtful. He's had injuries in the past and he'll get them in the future. He's on a good team now, but will Pittsburgh (assuming he stays with the team) be that good 10 years from now?

Fleury is amazing, but no goalie in history can do what Brodeur has done.
