Jordan Refractor Question & Star Card Question
Hey everyone...first post here on the board...I have been out of the ballcard craze for a long time now (last pack was back in the early 90s super print blitz that went on...I have always liked the Jordan Star cards and was wondering if anyone knows how many 96 jordan topps star xrc refrators were printed or is it a pretty common card? Ok...next question...for some reason I have always liked the Star cards of the mid 80s...I noticed a few posts online about beckett grading them...and now it looks like they do not...Is it because there are so many repops of them even they dont know whats real...or do they decide to stop grading cards for a while and then start grading them again? Thanks for checking out the post...

Star cards are hard to grade because not all cards are exactly the same size. If you bust open a bagged team set, not all cards are cut exactly the same. So one reason the grading companies don't like to grade them is because they can't tell if a card has been trimmed to make the edges & corners look "mint".

On the Topps Star Jordan xrc reprint card...which packs were these available in (96-97 topps finest or stadium club series 1 or 2?) Thanks everyone - is there a place to go ont his forum or a website perhaps that lists all of the cards in sets or which ones are available in certain years boxes from the early 90s until now)?

Definitely not 96-97 Topps Finest. It's Stadium Club, but can't remember if it is Series 1 or 2.

Ok...found this info at jordancards.com (info courtesy of them)
The 1984-85 Michael Jordan Star XRC Reprint Refractor
In 1996 Stadium Club Finest celebrated the historic 1984-85 Star Michael Jordan XRC by releasing a refractor reprint of the card. This card is the same in every way to the original except that it has an entirely foil coating with the refractor styling.
A very nice addition to your collection this card typically sells on eBay for around the $125 mark ungraded.
Note: Don’t confuse this card with the 1996 Topps Finest card. The Topps version of the card is not a refractor though it does feature the very nice Topps Finest styled foil. If you are looking to buy this card make sure to see evidence that the card is in fact a refractor by viewing a good photo of the card in the light on an angle or buying only from a well trusted dealer.

I also heard a rumor about the old printing plated being re-used for the Star cards also...

Its a shame such great early cards have collectors wondering about which ones are real...which ones are not...I sell advertising signs for a a living and every collectible it seems is plagued by people that make duplicates that are passed off as originals...stupid greed...I do remember seeing a thread somewhere on which star cards were reprinted and which ones were not (gent that posted about them knew a great deal about the Star cards).

This is 100% true. I've seen them on ebay. The obvious fakes were being passed off as rare white border or black border version. The not so obvious fakes were red border. I think it takes a real expert to sniff those out as fake. I think the color is not exactly right if I remember correctly.
