Tonight I decided to go to the free sixers scrimmage. All week this has been advertised as a free scrimmage with an autograph signing afterwards.
I got there early and graphed outside a bit. I got Jrue Holiday on an 8x10 and Spencer Hawes, Jodie Meeks and Thad Young on 4x6s (photos to follow).
I just missed Iguodala I arrived too late, and Evan Turner signed going in but I missed him getting Thad Young.
Then we stayed for the scrimmage. It was pretty painful- they did team drills for over an hour beforehand, so the part with the actual action was long after people had lost interest. I watched NFL redzone on my phone for most of it to be honest.
When the scrimmage ended we were relieved. I walked down to go onto the court and saw that it had all been blocked off with a chain. When I asked how I could get down on the court, I was told that this signing was SEASON TICKET HOLDERS ONLY!
All week it had been advertised as a free scrimmage and signing as a way to build energy and interest in the team. And here they were going to screw thousands of fans who could potentially spend hard-earned money on the team. They proceeded to do just that. No one would let us down, no one would budge, I even talked to a supervisor.
I met up with several people from these forums- Eddie and Brennan- over the course of the evening, they could attest to how ridiculous it was. It was REALLY good to graph with everyone on here.
Finally Eddie and I found an usher who said he didn't care if we tried to get in line on the court if we could get around security. We bluffed everyone by saying we had season tickets, and finally after much arguing and almost being thrown out, the supervisor threw up his hands and just let us get in the line.
I still feel really bad for all the people that got screwed. I can't believe the Sixers would play such a dirty trick on everyone. I got the whole team though pretty much, which was sweet.
Here are the photos:
Jrue Holiday 8x10 and card

Spencer Hawes 2x 4x6s

Sixers first round pick Vucevic 4x6

Lou Williams 4x6

Jodie Meeks 2x 4x6s

Thad Young 2x 4x6s

Evan Turner 4x6

Speights 4x6

Nocioni Card

Iguodala 8x10

Elton Brand 8x10

All in all it was a lot of fun, but I still can't BELIEVE the sixers pulled that crap. I wonder what I'm going to do now all NBA season now that I already have the entire roster lol.

Also, btw I can't find confirmation on this anywhere on the internet, but at the scrimmage the sixers said that on Wednesday at 4 pm at Liberty Plcae in Philly they are having a pep rally/toy drive.
If you bring a wrapped children's present, you get an autograph of a 76ers player (unspecified as to who it is) and a ticket to the home opener game at Wells-Fargo Center.
Pretty good deal, but again I can't find confirmation.

I also went to the Sixers free scrimmage last night. Needless to say it was an event, and if I had to do it all over again, I probably would not have gone. First off, I never been to the palestra and I was asking students who were walking with back-packs which building was the palestra and I literally got responses like this "I never heard of the palestra." "The palestra that's at NOVA." "The palestra is near temple bro."
So as you can imagine, a lot of people were first class nimrods down there. Suppose to be a bunch of well educated adults and they act like dopes. I got there pretty early as well (for parking) and I sat through the whole scrimmage which wasn’t the most exciting thing to do on a Sunday afternoon. I was there for a good three-four hours and I really only went for the chance to get some Sixers autographs for my collection. I even asked at the door what time the autograph session was going to start because the lot I parked in closed at a certain time, the lady at the door told me the session would start immediately after the scrimmage game.
Well after the scrimmage they said it was for Season Ticket Holders Only. Say what? A lot of people looked confused and it didn’t help that the University of Penn security and palestra security were a bunch of first class jerks. They were rude and they were turning away little kids who wanted autographs. The Sixers are somewhat to blame for the mess, but the University of Penn security and palestra security were the main problem. At this time I noticed Erik and made mention to him that the right side of the building was free to roam in and we went over there and tried getting into the line. It was a completely struggle and I honestly thought they were going to throw us out of there, the one black Penn guard even said he was going to call campus police. All over autographs on cards. Jesus man, really?
Long long story short, they finally let Erik and myself into the line to get the Sixers autographs. I got the entire team and the funny part of the night was Lou Williams signed my pennant twice. The girl that was helping me must have given him the pennant when I was putting away my cards and I rehanded him the pennant.
