Discussion Topic: Should the Sabres consider dealing Ryan Miller?

There has been some discussion in the Buffalo area about the possibility of trading Ryan Miller. Some people say you can not do it, others believe that they should look to move him.

This is a player, when on top of his game is one of the best goalies in the NHL, if not the world. We all saw what he is capable of doing when he was the Vezina Trophy winner and the Olympic MVP.

However, most Sabre fans have the feeling that he's looking to be dealt. Keep in mind that his wife lives out in California, one has to wonder if he wants to be dealt to be closer to her. As someone that travels for work on occasion, it's not easy to be away from your family. I completely get it.

Some things to keep in mind with Miller

    • After this weekend's games, he currently sits 32nd in Goals Against and 37th in Save %.
    • His Cap hit is $6,250,000 for the next 2 season after 11-12

In addition, his relationship with the Buffalo media is going downhill faster than Jack fell down when he broke his crown. Sabre owner Terry Pegula this weekend after the 8-3 blowout in Pittsburgh said the following "We saw some great goaltending tonight, didn't we? If they think they played well, we've got more problems."

It starts to make me wonder if it's time for the Sabres to pull to plug and make a deal for Miller.

Personally, there is only a couple of teams that have pieces that would make sense.

So what I'm asking you, if you were Darcy Regier, would you listen to a trade offer for Miller. If so, what would your deal be?

    My offer
    ----
The team that makes the most sense for a deal, if the Sabres would be willing to trade Miller would be Anaheim.

    To Anaheim
Ryan Miller 6.25 Million Cap Hit
Derek Roy 4 Million Cap Hit
    2012 2nd Round Pick

    To Buffalo
Jonas Hiller 4.5 Million Cap Hit
Ryan Getzlaf 5.325 Million Cap Hit
    2012 3rd Round Pick

Note: Anaheim takes on about 500k additional Cap hit, thus the swap of picks

Ducks won't move Getzlaf this early in his career.

I will say moving him does make perfect sense as enroth is more than capable.

If he is falling out of favour it may only expedite the process.

    Other suitors may be:
Edmonton (bulin wall is not a spring chicken and Edmonton has youth to burn)
Tampa Bay (May be able to pry vinnie out of there but he has a huge cap hit)
New Jersey (Need a replacement for Martin....long shot)
Columbus (heard many rumors that Nash is on the block....again, long shot)
Leafs (die hard fan so why not, bring him here...lol)

I think Edmonton or Tampa would be nice fits.

Hope all is well with the family Scott.

    Move Miller, let Enroth play!

I say that as a completely unbiased observer.

How are you a completely unbiased observer? Don't you collect Enroth cards?

As for trading Miller it is like the situation in Vancouver with Luongo. Both teams have stud back up goalies so fans start speculation on trading their starter. If you are able to get Getzlaf and Hiller for Miller and Roy then it would be a worthwhile deal for Buffalo. Not sure Anahiem would do that.

enroth or miller have to be traded.

enroth is a certified starter, and would fit into many teams goaltender spot.
    edmonton is my idea
young team, crap goalie, why not add a young, goalie, that is good

Yeah, I'm actually about as biased as can be in favor of Enroth. But the numbers don't lie, Miller has been way off his game this season.

I think a deal with Anaheim is a possibility since he'd like to be on the west coast, and the other California teams don't need goalies. I'd be surprised to see Getzlaf involved, though, unless the Ducks felt there was no chance to retain him.
