Zack Phillips Signs With Minnesota Wild
According to the Twitter account of 2011 first round draft pick Zack Phillips, (Tweet since deleted -likely due to contract not being filed with the league) he has signed his first NHL contract. While this is welcome news, do not get ahead of yourselves. This does not, repeat does NOT mean Phillips is headed for Saint Paul, nor does it even mean he is headed for Houston. He is still bound by the same CHL - AHL transfer agreement he was before.

Zack was cut from Team Canada Juniors, and with Galiev and Huberdeau still out, he will see plenty of ice-time in Saint John (season ticket holder here) as they try and repeat as Memorial Cup Champs. Surprised to see the high draft in 2011 and any talk of him being an NHL'er, to me highly over-rated.

Shhh! Shun the unbeliever!!!
lol Well then that's bad news for Wild fans like myself. From what I saw at development camp, he seemed to have really good chemistry with Mikael Granlund and Johan Larsson. They really seemed to be clicking in scrimmages, especially Granlund and Phillips.
Anyway, this is all coming from a Sea Dogs fan in South Dakota and I'm really excited to see how well Phillips does playing with Coyle when he arrives in Saint John after the break. Any chance they could be playing together on the same line with maybe Huburdeau, Jurco or Gauthier as the other 3rd of the line?

Phillips is actually considered local talent (Fredericton) as they do with Tisink (Saint John) they give them plenty of time to shine. Phillips will always be first line, just will be tough for Coyle as the new guy to be in # 1 line once Huberdeau and Galiev return, but for now if he can play LW he will take Huberdeaus spot. Gauthier is a beast and established himself when everyone was off to NHL camps, but his ice time is reducing to 2nd line center now. Jurco is on his wing most nights as mentioned earlier they are trying to showcase local Tisink with Phillips, which will change when Galiev returns. So deep in talent, the team is still # 1 since all the NHL camps closed even with the top 2 players injured.
