because the first one is a parallel and not considered a true rookie card

More people build sets of the ARP's and have no interest in the Gold parallels, and in Tavares' case, his Gold isn't much rarer than the Regular, so Player Collectors won't be battling to get them.

Exactly. The /99 is considered a RC, the /91 is not.... so RC collectors are after it. Set biulders build the set of RCs, but don't generally hit the golds too much.
You'll see the same thing with Crosby. His Cup /99 generally sells better than /87.
The Golds generally don't do much any better (and often less) than the true RCs unless they're really SP'd.

I never understood why the have thoose gold parallels since they are not considered true rc and have not much value..

It's an extra hit that adds more value to the product. If you get a player like Ovechkin, Keith, Weber, or Gorges you get an awesome auto-patch #'d under 10. I paid much more for my Gorges Gold Rainbow than my true rookie because of the disparity between the /199 and /6
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

there's plenty of value. while the Tavares /91 might not sell as high as the true rc /99, pulling a $350 card is still nothing to sneeze at. also, they look sexy when all the parallels are put together:

Only in Hockey do people not place a value on the lower printed parallel. Every other sport people want the lower printed parallel because it's the RC, but "rarer". Hockey collectors are primarily a rare breed of collector (Read; "Canadian"!) and feel that anything other than a TRUE RC is worthless. This is reflected time and time again in the value of RC parallels, no mater how low the numbering.

With some exceptions , i sold 05/06 sp ltd ( #ed/100 ) cards of Rinne and Crawford for $20-30 a few months ago , the regular sp rc of these players don't get to those levels

It depends largely on the parallel and the disparity in print runs that we're talking about.
The SP Authentic Future Watch Patches /100 sell for considerably more than the FW RC /999.
Black Diamond Ruby /100 will outdo their non-numbered true RCs.
Low #'d SPGU parallels will outdo the regular RC's unless it's one of the SP'd /99 rookies.
Obviously some of the parallels (i.e. SPA) have valued-added parts to them (patches, etc.) but in many cases the parallel will do better than the RC.
