The value of most rookie cards doesn't correlate to the price of the product which is simply another case of supply and demand taking place.

There might be more UD1 printed and the box price is less, but way more people are collecting UD1 and it's highly coveted in the hobby at large.

Whereas, it's box breakers taking a chance on pulling sweet hits such as low numbered patch cards that are buying Trilogy and SPGU versus rookie card and set collectors. Sure, it's sweet to pull a top rookie card out of those products, but collectors aren't buying the product with that as their main intent.

    Now we're talking!

    Carved in stone:

    1. The Cup
    2. UD1
    3. UD2

Then I have choosen five products which in my opinion they should kept.

    4. Artifacts
    5. SP Game Used (If they can use GAME USED material!)
    6. Parkhurst Champions
    7. SP Authentic
    8. Victory

I think UD needs another product in the 130$ price range or so. the only one they have is SPGU and i think you get really crap value for that kind of money from lets say 1 box.. I really miss Trilogy with the Ice scripts and multiple plexi autos why is that not in any other set like they do with the ice rookies in black diamond etc.. ?

The only solid products from UD in my book are Cup, Ultimate, Artifacts and Authentic that has nice amount of hits and good design on cards etc.. stuff like SPx can really disappear and nobody would notice it, same with SP GU take that away and give Trilogy or even Sweet shot back.

I'll just C&P from this October 2011 article I wrote....

I am a fan of taking good things from products I do not like and adding them to other products that I do like. With fewer products on the market, the companies would have a grand opportunity to make higher-quality releases using the best parts of those products that do not survive the chopping block. Imagine, if you will, Upper Deck bringing back Ice as a standalone product that keeps a strong focus on acetate cards: not only the highly-desirable RC’s #’d /99, but also bring in elements from defunct lines like Trilogy such as Frozen In Time, Ice Scripts, and Clear Cut Combos. They could also incorporate the visually stunning Black Ice memorabilia/autograph cards from UD Black and have a very strong product that would be greater than the sum of its parts. The same could be done with the three products that bear the SP name; a super-set comprised of the strongest parts of SP Authentic (hard-signed autographs), SP Game Used (high-end memorabilia pieces), and SPx (does SPx do anything better than these other two products? I can’t think of anything in it that stands out beyond the Shadowbox inserts) under a single banner would be an incredible product.

    -------------

I can do up a list of what I'd like to see later.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Throw a couple of sticker autos into each case of Victory and go back to serial numbering the Victory Blacks to five copies and you'll double the interest over night.

    1. SP Game Used should be dropped. It was the ugliest card in their repertoire when it was launched in 2000-01 and remains that.

    2. Victory as an entry level should have a higher value Rookie Card profile, why should kids with little money have to suffer indignity of garbage price values.

    3. Unfortunately UD has already sullied the good name of OPC by offering every parallel known to man, and they've cheapened the brand..... don't stop now.

    4. SPx all through the late 90's had a nice base card stock than SP Authentic, both should continue, but should be more generous and not so stingy. For the cost you get nothing little in overall value from SPx or SP Authentic. An average player auto ruins your box and leaves you with only 1/10th the value or less.

    5. Don't care about The Cup. Overpriced novelty

    6. Trilogy are actually nice cards, don't know why they aren't accepted as such, perhaps lowering the price would help.

    7. UD Ultimate are OK as well

    8. Drop Black Diamond. The card design is a mess since they pulled BD in 01-02.

    +2

Victory is can really be a great product, especially for kids and teens that can not afford to shell out $70-$80 a box, let alone $100-$150 or more. Manufacturers need to realize that in order to gain and cultivate new interest isn't with the Adults wanting to recapture their childhood (like me) as we are already there. Its with a new group of people, a younger group.

I think Panini has captured this with Score @ $30-$40 a box and the variety they do offer. Victory can have this if it was not such a bland product and offered more than parallels.

Good points, but UD already has this (and more) in MVP. MVP has (or had) the Two-on-Two jerseys and One-on-One autos for a slightly higher price point than Victory. Plus, the MVP Gold and Super scripts are one of the few parallels that actually appeal to me. They could simply add in another parallel (don't crucify me LOL) to the rookies (Black script or something) and #/5. Bada-bing Bada-boom, you got a weiner.
