your inventory inputing/scanning workflow for scf inventory manager
curious what your work flow is when inputing cards into your inventory on scf, i'm just starting this process and trying to find a smooth work flow. here's my plan, my cards in just are just in boxes and not oranized at all, condensed all down to as few boxes as possible, i will be organizing them as the process progresses, so here's my plan.
start with 2 of the 3 row boxes, one for trade/sell and one for pc
1 colum scanned not input
1 colum input
1 colum scanned and input
i figure i'll eventually have to get more boxes but for know i guess i'll play shuffle the boxes untill all scanned and input, defiantly going to take awhile
if you got any better ideas please let me know, thank you

I don't know if you have many cards but I do and I find that the best way is to sort them per year and set and then do a year and one brand at a time. You can take note on a paper what years and brand are done. I say this because I have over 70,000 cards and I currently have over 33,000 cards in my inventory. If I did not have them sorted by years and brand, it would take forerever to find a card when someone ask to trade for one. Like I have many cards from early 90's not entered because no one wnat to trade for them so I am not in a rush to enter them. I only scan insert paralel and rookies. I don't scan base cards as this is really not needed. Then for all cards I scan I can set the team for those cards and help if someone want to search for a team since we do not set the team of cards, Only member does and they can only if they have a image of them. Then the cards set by members are set for everyone else.
But with many cards, your system would not help much since it would be hard to find the cards when someone wants to trade. Year, brand and card number is the best way to sort cards.

I am finding it to be very slow. I have about 20,000 hockey cards to input. Already did about 9,000 in Football, Basketball and Baseball.
Hoping I get them all right in terms of set. I actually had the hockey all sorted by team and then alphabetized within each team. This was easier for me since I use them to get signed. So it was quick to just search a player and be oh he played for such and such team.
So I just take the team I'm doing and run thru them all. Can be annoying when there is a card that you don't know what it is, usually something that's also French since you have to read the back. But the inventory manager is good at giving you the different variations.
Scanning them is out of the question. I'm about 11,000 in and I really don't care. There are other places to see pictures.
Been going thru my smaller team groups, but eventually I'll be getting into my teams where I have at least 3,000 cards for each team. I'll just have to slowly do them.
I'm finding today the manager is very slow when you add a card. I have to wait to add the next one. So I just lost interest for the day. Kind of annoying when you lay out your cards to work then you have to pack them all up because it is slow going.

This is slow because we are doing maintenance between 8 AM and 4 PM everyday. Mainly we never really pruned (deleted) post and we had over 10,5 millions threads. Latly the site was getting too slow because we keep growing and thread keep getting accumulated. So we want to get the number under 2 millions and maybe more around 1 million. That will mean forum search will take less time and the site will become faster. The forum search, search 10 million post was simply killing the site performance. So we have no choice but to do it to get things back to normal. Only 1/4 of the maintenance was done and may take a week or two to finish the maintenance since we need to do this within VBulleting admin function so all keep there thread count and to not corrupt the database.
But it will be faster once we are done with this. Just need to be done. Also you say it take time. One think not helping you is the fact you have them sorted the way you did them. This database application is fast if you have them per set but team, we do not have this information in the database. So we can't pull them for you. WE only have the info that was available for us to enter in the database. A card info does not tell you the team the player is pictured in and so often, even with the image, a pacth is of one team and the player has a uniform from a other team.
This is why I say it's better to have them sorted per year set and card number. Then they are easy to find, pull or even enter in the inventory. Also once they will be in the inventory, you will still have hard time to pull them if you keep the current sorting. I know for fact since I did enter many and when someone ask you for a specific card from a player that played in five team, you may well take a lot of time to find the card. Like someone just ask me for like 15 cards from one player. I will have no issue to pull them out of the box because they are sorted and easy to find.
You ask what is the best method and this is why I explained to you my method. When I had ton of cards and still have some not doen per player, my cards get zero visibility and will never move any. When I get the time, I will sort them and then add them to the inventory.
Per set there is a neet feature for like base cards. Youcan set all quantity to one. then select all the cards from that set and just change the quantity for all cards at once. But since we do not have team, team sorting is not the best either. It's good if you want to try to move lots from a team but other then this, not very usefull to find cards in a box.
Also you do have a back up feature that will let you export a list compatible with spreedsheat with all you entry in it. But it will use the year, cardset and card number sorting.
Nothing is easy to do in all case with so many cards. But I enjoy doing it

again your sorting does not help since I think you probably query each card one by one and that does not help you. If you had them per set it would be so much faster as we do list cardset list all on one page.
Also maybe one little trick is to use the middle mouse button. On my computer, I do have the middle mouse button set to open a link in a new tab. So what I do, if I only have one card, I use the middle mouse button and it add that one card by opening a new tab. When you see the card update page with 1 in the quantity, the record is already created so this tab can simply be closed. So you can start a new query on that one page right away and let the other one finish on it's own tab. That can spped up the process since you can then close all tabs really fast.
Also like I said, if you have them per player then pulling a list from the player indexing is very much faster and you can only change the few things like set name and or card number to query again. That is if you use the middle mouse button to add the card.

Well yes it is my own doing how I had them sorted. This was at a time when I was using them for thru the mail or in person autographs. So it was somewhat easier for me to just look for a guy by team.
It only really gets slow when I have to do them one by one. Several cards I have multiples so just add and then edit the total # of it I have and I'm done.
I don't think back when I first got these that I would have been able to sort them by set. I have a feeling I would have had alot mixed up like UD French or any that have a French version. Just because back then I wouldn't pay attention.
I know it will get don eventually but I'm not really seeing anyone message me looking for cards anyways. So no hurry.
It will be good to see the forum get cleaned up a bit. It can be frustrating with so many old old posts. I'd say just wipe them all out up til a certain date, but I'm sure some wouldn't like that. It's the repeat posts and dead posts that hog all the database I'd imagine. I try to just refresh my posts rather than make new ones.
