    No Problems here.

SCF really does not have troubles now like in the old days. Before Mike was the owner, we'd go weeks at a time where the Servers didn't work., or they would only work 1 or 2 hours per day, then shutdown. 2003-2005 was a nightmare.

The site has few issues in 2012.

I know you weren't complaining at all. When I turn on my computer and get this site to run for days at a time, it's all a bonus compared to the origins of SCF and how little it actually ran for the first 18 months.

You'd post a trade, the site would go down, then you'd get to sign off on the Trade 3-4 weeks later. Lol

I havn't been on that long just over a year now, and I am thankful that sites like this exist, or else I wouldnt be trading no cards anymore. Not many collect where I am from so it's a great to be able to get some trades done, with people who love collecting as much as I do.

We have not done maintenance in a while other then occasional defrag if disk or adding new elelment to the computer.

Thisw week-end was very eratic and this was because we ran into issue when backing up database and the site, It kept on and on ofr like 10 hours in a row and it was just not working anymore for us. SO Mike order last week a back up server that does continous back up of only changes and not the whole content. The issue was that when they installed it and turn the new system on, the host forgot to remove the old script we had for back up. So in the end, we had the new back up system running and the old one as well. We ended up with RAM that was lost due to these that kept running and never ending so that is why the week-edn was so eratic but once we figure out the issue, we finally were able to kill the process in RAM that were useles, stop the old back up script from running and we are in the proccess of tweeking the new back up and we also uninstalled many plugins on the forum like arcade and other because soon we want to also upgrade the forums to VBulletin 4.1. Yesrterday evening we even had to close the forums for some time in the evening but that is fine now as we have identified the issue that was causing all this.

As far as search closed, we are not yet as we will need to do a lot of configuration first to reduce the post being searched, Once this is done, we should not have anymore issue with the search being down.

The reason we close the search is that Sportcardforum as many millions of post and depending on how many is search and how many simutanious search go on at one given time, it take a lot of processor speed to deliver all these and when queries are not delivered right away, it become a line up to get serve and then the server load rise up. The fact we tunr the search off is to let the load come down to a normal load. If we would not do it, the site would crash and then we may end up with a corrupted database and loose transaction. This is something we try to avoid and why when the server load go to high we turn it off to prevent loosing data from transaction made in the trade manager.

Entually with all the change and tweek it will run as smooth as it always did. But we are not just working on one issue so all this take time. The new back up system should be a much better solution for the future, the new version of VBulletin will bring new feature to members and we uninstall many plugiins to clean up and because they would not work with the new version. Some may not return, other are coded with in VBulletin like the new version come with blogs, they also have a modile app that work with it and many new features.

In all the years, I was here, we never undertook so many things at once but now due to the growth we had, we had no choice and we figure it was better to do it all now in one of the quiet period of the years. All should be much smooter once we done all we plan to do.
