1st Break Ever- '11 Goodwin Champions
I have 2 Goodwin Museum Edward VIII relic cards. I love them and finally caved and purchased a 2011 Goodwin Hobby Box....
Paid $90 for my box through dacardworld.
83 individual basecards- Now that I've bought a box I'm disappointed by the overall look of these cards. Individually they are great but flipping through the stack...the look gets old.
10 minis- silver Bill Walton, Jon Jones and Tyson Gay black border "Lucky Lady were the only special ones.
Baked in "Hits"- Louis Pastuer was my Goodwin Citizen, Earth was my "World Traveler", and Bobby Orr snuff can shape was my Sports Figure
The Hits....
1) Animal Kingdom Patch- Koala Bear.
This was my first hit and I was thrilled because I know these are a step up from the run of the mill stuff and then disappointed because I was sure this was going to be my biggest hit. Very cool looking though.
2) Auto- Cody Hawn
Yep, that was my auto hit. I almost missed it as I thumbed through the pack. Had to google him when I was done and found out he's a minor leaguer for the Brewers. Was really let down and just really hoped my third hit would be better. That said....
3) Entomology Redemption
Blown away. I let my younger sister open a handful of packs(there are 20) and I'm opening one up and hear "Oh cool, there's a scratch-off". I was blown away. I immediately yelled "Don't scratch it!" and ran over. I was holding out for a museum hit but knew it didn't matter in this set scratch off was awesome. Sure enough...entomology. From what I read these are a 1 per case hit. Still on the fence to redeem it or hit the bay.
All in all...amazing experience. I was certain the Animal Kingdom patch was going to be the highlight. At 1 for every 3 boxes I was happy but to get that AND the entomology redemption is unreal.
This may have been my first ever box break but it certainly will not be my last.

After thinking about it I decided to redeem it. I shelled out the $90(shipped) and expected a complete loss-just wanted the fun of actually buying/breaking a box. That and there's a good chance I wont get another one of these cards again so why not?
So I let my sister scratch it and went onto the UD site to redeem it.....only to find that UDs site wont let me register(goes to error msg)....unreal. Emailed their tech support. Really excited to see what I have here. Will post some pics of my break in a few days and the redemption when/if I can get it.

Congrats on a great first box! I pulled an entomology out of the 2009 version and it was sweet! Congrats again.

Thanks.
What a pain though to find a link that worked to register on UD for the redemption. I ended up registering through their kids section or something bizarre like that. They really need to address their website problems.
All is well and on track though. Can't wait to see what I get. Actually thinking about grabbing another Goodwin hobby box....Last edited by Sawks14; 01-26-2012 at 11:14 AM.

Those Entomology cards are great! I've seen a few go for the $350-400 range on ebay...most sell between $80-150 depending on what you get. Cool cards.
Overall, I love this Goodwin set...I had a nice hit a couple of weeks back that doubled what I paid for the box.

Yeah I see where they've sold for $120-150 as recently as the end of November. I really thought about it but in the end am just too intrigued and interested to never know. I might take a hit getting the physical card but any of them sell for decent if I ever change my mind and want to sell on ebay.
Also, I think the 1 per case ratio is off. I read a lot about how 2009 was set at 1 per and that turns out to be wrong. "Landkmarks", "Thoroughbred Hair Cuts", and Entomology were lumped together in a special group that was 1 per. That means they were more rare that that- how much so I am not sure as Upper Deck does not release specific numbers on these hits.
Given the relatively same setup with this years release(subbing museum for landmark?) I really think this was an even bigger hit than I originally thought.
In any event I am just excited to get my card!
EDIT- Found a video that supports my 1 of either museum/horse/entomology per case as opposed to 1 of each per caseLast edited by Sawks14; 01-26-2012 at 01:52 PM.

Great break! I've never intentionally purchased any Goodwin Champions, I'm more of a Ginter guy myself. Though the Museum Relic of Lord Horatio Nelson is verrrrry tempting (I'm a retired Naval Officer and history buff) but I know the odds are astronomical to pull on from the box, so I'm better off just buying one off the bay.
I also like minis... might have to look into a box of next year's stuff... or should I go with this year's stuff? I don't know.

I've been keeping an eye out for the Museum cards(they are what lured me into Goodwin) for the last couple months and it is brutal.
Edward VIIIs pop up every so often and sell for $40-90. I was lucky enough to grab both of mine toward the lower end($45 and $55) but have seen a few go at $75 and 90.
I've seem 3 White House wood cards(or at least 3 listings). One auctioned for $500, one sold BIN for $2K and one is listed now with a starting bid of $999 and BIN of $2,499.
Napoleon chair cards have come up a couple times too-one with an opening bid of $1K and not selling and one auctioning off at $700.
I've seen one LBJ sell for $150.
As for Nelson(one I really want as well) I've only seen a few and they seem to go for $100-200.
Lindbergh relics have come up and sell for around $100.
All in all the museum card prices are all over the map. I think it helps that they only get listed once in a blue moon so those that have been waiting just jump on them. LBJ and Nelson are the two I'm holding out hope to get but its been quite a while since I've seen either of them.
That said if anybody out there has one or knows where one may be please let me know.
