Why not redemptions for Game-Used jersey?
I've been thinking to myself what would be the next innovative idea the card companies would come out with.I don't really like the laundry tag cards and find them to be extremely overpriced. There have been net cards etc, but has there ever been a redemption for a full game used jersey?IMO, this would be the ultimate "1/1", instead of a 2 inch part of the jersey, why not provide GU gloves, sticks and jerseys to the paying customer. There are just way too many GU jersey cards out there, and about half aren't even really "game" used.To disperse the GU gear, just insert a redemption card for a certain item of certain player....imagine pulling a card for game used jersey of Sidney Crosby or Wayne Gretzky!??!
I know UD,Panini etc really have no incentive to do something like this, but with the insane prices they charge, they can easily afford something like this.I'm sorry, but paying $500 a pack for 4-5 cards with a tiny piece of a jersey is just a little too much IMO and not affordable for the majority of collectors...but if I had a chance to get a GU jersey or stick out of a product of a superstar, I may take the chance and bust a few.
Just my $.02 to try and improve this hobby, my apologies if this was talked about before.

I think I remember some redemptions last year for 8x10's (signed&framed) or something along those lines in a product or two. I believe it was Panini.
But yeah, I don't think it will happen, but that would be sick.

A company can make thousands of jersey/patch/tag/fight strap cards out of a GU jersey, compared to giving the whole thing away.
More cards = more product = more money.

Spot on!
For us it's a passion. For them it's a business and that means maximizing profits. If there were only 1 Overchkin redemption for a GU jersey, people might stop buying the product after it has been pulled.Hidden Content

My idea would be a custom made memorabilia card. I know one company did that a few years ago (ITG I think) but you chose from a listing of players. I'd like to see a redemption card where you get to pick any player of your choosing.

UD did do it back in the 90s. ITG did it last year (maybe other years too?).
Certainly it's not a common thing.... but it has been done.
Pick your player would certainly be interesting. Hard for the card company to gaurentee whomever you want though.

I dont know about topps but Bowman for sure had redemptions in their product. I still remember pulling a Dany Heatley (when he was still somewhat in the popular favor) but it had expired three weeks beforehand and Bowman refused to do anything about it.
Didnt UD Piece of History from 02-03 have redemptions for such things as actual stanley cup banners and such?

I believe it was 00-01 Spa where UD inserted redemptions for framed autographed jerseys, not game worn though. I picked up both the Daniel and Henrik Sedins... And lucky me UD goofed and sent me an extra Hank :)
