If you plan on staying withim arlington and dc you can save money on car rentals and take metro. However the trains stop running at midnight so make sure that you are in by then. You can also rent cars at washington national airport.

I used to live in the DC area but moved about 7 years ago. Check out Soul Vegetarian. They used to have a store in DC but I'm not sure if there are still there but they do have to location in Largo, MD which is right outside of dc and you can catch the blue line subway out there.
