    Erik Karlsson

I'm a little bit puzzled, this guy is far ahead of any other D, nr six in total points, and there's virtually no fuzz about him. I know, he play for the Senators, but even on a hobbycold team if the player is good enough there usually is a fuzz, especially when he's young and it's his second year only. I don't get it. And I don't see much news on him on NHL.com either. Swedish media has finally started picking up on him the last weeks, but he's relatively unknown here too.

Hear a lot of talk about him recently (especailly since he's coming off a 12 point week, where he really extended his lead in the points race). He's tied for 6th overall, and is up by 23 points on the next closest dman.

Funny thing though (and this is what makes me laugh at the NHL sometimes, and how it does business) listening to sports radio....... they were talking about the Norris Trophy..... and would be be a candidate? (at this point I'm wondering - how would he NOT be one??).

Anyway - the conversation was basically "Well, I think it's Shea Weber's year. He's been really close in the past, and has played really well this season. They might nominate Karlsson, but they won't give it to a 21 year old kid that's never been nominated before. You have to pay your dues."

Which is a bunch of malarky, as far as I'm concerned.

If Weber is the best dman this year, he should win it. If Karlsson is the best dman this year, he should win it. Don't care about past history. Not one bit.

Amen. But it's the same with all competitions, take figure skating, when Yagurin was 16 he "only" won the bronze medal, despite being a trillion years better than anyone else. It's not very fair. Who's to say this isn't the best year in all of Karlsson's life? You never know, and if at the end of all he still kick *ss with the rest of the D-men it's insane not to give him Norris.

I agree. A lot of people point to the fact that he is young and still gives up the puck more than he should. Some people still look at the -31 or whatever it was last year. His +16 this year shows how much he has improved.

All I know is he is the most enjoyable player to watch right now (IMO. I know every team has one of those)

If he had played for Toronto, and especially if he had been Canadian, my bet is his rookies would be the most wanted of all. Strange world.

Yeah. IMO - The winner should be the best. I'm not saying EK is necessarily the answer to "who is the best dman this year?" but I think it's a very easy argument to make. If he is the best this year..... age & lack of past nominations should have nothing to do with it.

Those awards are not necessarily fair , take Lundqvist for instance, he should have gotten the Vezina by now. The awards often seems biased in some way. But it's not the awards I meant anyway : )

I find a lot of awards are based on reputation moreso than what one has actually done in the past season.

Karlsson's got a lot of buzz around the League and it is increasing by the week. He seems to be another Mike Green-type, only better defensively. He's going to be a star in the very near future and expect to see the hobby relationship grow along with that.

Heck, Mike Milbury's already got him pegged as a favourite for the Calder!

Karlsson is a beast and has been a beast for the last 2 years. Definitely think he should be considered for the Norris...just not the winner.
