    I don't understand?

This will be a short rant. I'm sure we have all had this experience at one point.

Buyer post's thread in "Buying\Selling" forum, WTB so and so card.

We offer a very fair sell price, buyer responds with something like:
" oh that sounds great, but I'll need to get back to you in 2.5 weeks, there's a card show and I may need my money for then."
    or
"I get paid in 2 weeks so I'll will contact you then"
    or
"that's great, but I want to pay 25% less then Ebay"

I don't know about anyone else, when you post a thread stating your buying, THEN BUY!
Don't waste my time, asking for scans, going back and forth ten times on emails, negotiating a $1 off an asking price and then finish saying "I'll get back to you".

    So frustrating.

Tons of folks just want the interaction. I have actually followed people that have done this, just to see if they buy anything at the end of the day. They don't.

Let me get back to you is the daily lie told by 75% of all members on SCF.

There is one since-banned member who started at least 10 threads in which he was looking to buy high-end cards. I did the same thing you mentioned as far as following them, and they didn't make a single trade or sale.

Yes i am sure we all have our share of unpleasant dealing with so-called buyers.

Here is mine. Some time ago i was reading a white whale thread and found a card a person was looking for 5 years. I dug deep back into the late 90's to find the card.
Believe me i have over 400,000 cards so dig back that far took over 1.5 hours to find the card.
I think the card booked like $50-$60 on the high side and asked for an offer. Yes $12 delivered was their offer i got. My reply was give me your address and i will shred the card and send it for free.
That was the last time i went that far out of my way to find someones white whale.

I know i have several other peoples white whales from the 90's but do not see myself
digging that deep ever again in the near future.

    End mini rant.

That's a great story, actually made me laugh out loud.

I'm curious whether you got a response to your counteroffer.

For the chemist in you, it should read "It takes Alkynes to make a world".

I think everyone would be surprised at the great or very good deals that get done through patience. If you are willing to wait an be patient, maybe you'll find that person who wants to sell at the price you want to buy.

As for the "I'll get back to you" lie, its certainly a lot more polite and leaves the door open for a future trade a lot more than "your price is way off base and I think there's no way I'd ever buy from you".

    Cheers,
    reoddai

Today's Market shows that $50-$60 cards sell in that ballpark range of $10-$15. Sorry, but that is reality.

I have always sold for 30% and less on anything, I am under no illusion that I have such rare cards that won't price themselves out of a sale.

The biggest mistake sellers make is dreaming that their stuff is actually anywhere near 50% of Book. That is a pipe dream.
