shields was never THAT good, dude just has heart and killer jits. i'm a big fan of his because the guy is awesome to watch if he can get the fight to the ground.
but yeah i'm wary of the hype people like shields and lombard get when they come in. theres only 1 name i can think of off the top of my head that came in and dominated and you all know who that is. rampage got the belt quick but everyone figured him out even faster so he didnt't last long.
for lombard though his first fight with stann should be damn good for him provided stann doesn't go wrestler on his ™™™.

Stann wrestles? I don't remember him ever trying to take the fight to the ground.

but he's a jackson guy and they love thier gameplans. stann slugged it out with sakara and leben so i'm sure he'd like to with lombard, but you know jackson guys usually stick to a gameplan for thier big fights and this is a big fight.

Honestly think the best gameplan for Stann is to stick on the feet with Lombard, Lombard is short and has a small reach stann could stay on the outside and land his hellish fists into Lmobards face. Lombard is no ground wizard but he's much better then Stann.
Stann's best skill is the power in his fists, it would be silly not to use that.Last edited by frizzzlecake; 05-05-2012 at 03:49 PM.

Shields went undefeated for five years, with wins over Henderson, Kampmann, Daley, Thompson, Pyle, Lawler, Okami, and Condit (even though Condit was robbed in that one). How does that make someone overrated?
Lombard on the other hand has faced average (and that's putting it kindly) competition for years. The best guy he's faced in the last five years would have to be Shlemenko, and he's maybe a top-20 middleweight. I think Lombard will peak out as a bottom half of the top-10 middleweight.
The fight with Stann should be entertaining for as long as it lasts.

Personally, I dont see how Lombard could pull Stann for his first UFC fight. Silva should have given him someone not in the top 10 to get his feet wet first. Although Lombard's record is impressive, we are talking Bellator-caliber competition. I dont feel he is ready for a guy like Stann. It will probably be as short as Stann's last fight.

stann is injured and out of a potentially killer fight, i still think bisping would be a nice welcome for lombard.
my respect for mayhem just went up a little again for fighting with that bum knee, seems like 1-2 people are dropping out of fights a day the past week or so.
