For what it's worth, I sold my Carey Price SPx RC for about 20% more than what many people are selling for their SP Authentic RC's. So yeah, it is a much maligned product but there is still value there.

I wholeheartedly agree about the prospect of a mega SP product though. :)

I think if SP Authentic was merged with anything you'd have a lot of unhappy collectors. The product by itself is better than most out there, why would you ruin it adding thing like manufactured patch auto's or rookie jersey auto's with stickers?

    You misinterpret what I'm saying.

SPx and SP Game Used both have some nice elements to them, but imagine a world where this happens in one product:
Hard-signed rookies with auto-patch parallels - not much change there, except with a twist: they're tiered with the best rookies being SP'd (a la SPGU & SPx)
High-end memorabilia cards (i.e. By The Letter)
    Inked Sweaters/Significant Numbers being hard-signed
    Shadowbox cards with hard-signed autos

Granted, this falls into a larger discussion about axing certain products. As I've said on many occasions, I am a fan of taking good things from products I do not like and adding them to other products that I do like. With fewer products on the market, the companies would have a grand opportunity to make higher-quality releases using the best parts of those products that do not survive the chopping block. SPx doesn't really offer anything special in today's market. SPGU has a couple good things going for it. But SP Authentic is the gold standard of the three products, and the one I would build around.

I understand what you're saying, I still don't think I like it. SP Authentic isn't a memorabilia based set, regardless of whether the "inked sweaters" are hard signed or not. UD tried putting jersey cards in the product once, 01/02, and there's probably a reason they no longer do it.

Well it wasn't long after that they had 21 other sets to fill. ;)

In a market where things are getting pretty tedious and repetitive, UD would do well to cull the chaff from the wheat and do some diversification. They haven't introduced a new product line in how long now? Say they do the super-SPA thing I propose here - they now have two holes to fill in the lineup. Create one new product from scratch and bring back Hot Prospects and do the stuff in that product that worked and do some of the fun SPx elements there as well.

Maybe that's why the product was delayed for 3 months - they had to print cards for Louis Leblanc.

Has anybody seen ANY Habs hits besides the rookies? I've looked through so many threads and 200+ eBay listings and I haven't seen a single GU or anything beyond the rookie content. I know that I'm getting a bit more selective with my collecting these days but it'd be nice to see at least some Carey or other stuff.

I agree with you about the value being there. Ice rookies always seem to sell more then others (stamkos 08/09 sold for 1,000$) but not just those, the basic SPx ones sell for more too.

For $130 at most places, I just don't see the value in a box like this. If the auto was a current NHL/proven player, then I would be in. But I'm not interested in paying $130 for 3 jerseys, and a jersey sticker auto of sucky rookies like Aaron Palushaj and John Moore (no offense to them.)

Granted, the jerseys and inserts of SPx do sell more then usual jerseys and insets, I really think a TOP price point of this box should be $110 TOPS.
