    Roger Clemens

    Roger Clemens in NH

So the Rocket was in NH for the weekend to see Koby play and found out where he was staying so I decided to try for one of my favorite childhood athletes this morning, got up at 6am and headed out at 6:30am to drive up to NH to try and catch Roger at the hotel or maybe going in at the park. I made really good time (no surprise to those of you on here who have driven with me considering my usual high speed reckless nature) and decided I was going to wait it out in the lobby being the only ones there, hour passes by and I notice Koby walking into the hotel and sit down and figured it wouldn't be long before I see The Rocket and I was right. About 15min after Koby arrived I see Roger come out of the elevators and I walk with him until we get past the front desk and I ask him to sign and he said "Not here maybe at the park". I was a bit deflated but decided to stick to it. Roger and Koby I noticed got something quick from the cafe so I watched and noticed they were heading for the door to walk out so I get outside and there was a mother with 2 kids waiting and he stopped to take a pic but didn't sign. He saw I was there and said "Not at the hotel man at the park" and I decided to walk with him and Koby (they were parked near me anyways) and I trailed a little bit and told him the generic "big fan" stuff and explained I drove a decent way and was up really early and I won't bother him again I just want one autograph and I'd appreciate the time if you could. He said "Alright that's cool come to the car" so he put his stuff in the car and said "Okay real quick" and signed for the kid I was with and myself he turned down the kid I was with request for CY but I figure I try so I asked him for SS with 7x Cy and said "Sure no problem" I asked for pic with if he had the time and said he had to get going so Koby could get in on time. One of my favorite success of all time considering how much I idolized him growing up and getting one of my favorite athletes of all time, made the ride back much more enjoyable and got him in time for Mother's Day brunch too boot.

Roger Clemens 1/1 SS ROMLB w/7x CY insc.

Hey, I'm glad your happy, but to be totally honest it sounds like you were kind of a pest.

Outside of the right environment (in or around the ballpark) I would ask a guy maybe once. But you pretty much followed him to his car when he's away from home visiting his son.

Maybe I'm not hardcore like you but it sounds really extreme and is what I think turns a lot of players off from signing.

If it was over the line he would have made it clear, he instructed me to follow them to the car and trust me if not for being persistent it wouldn't have gotten done I have no regrets about how I went about it.

Big grey area on what people would consider overboard in this hobby. Some have a strict way to doing things where others may not. To each their own.

Following a guy to his car after he said no twice seems to be overboard. I always quit after the initial "no" or "later" which I guess is why I rarely get successes like this. To be honest, I wouldn't want to get a success this way anyways. I'd want to get it knowing I didn't bug the Heck out of a guy till he caved and signed so I'd go away. Just me though...
