2012 Topps Opening Day
2012 Topps Opening Day
Per box items:
36 packs per box
7 cards per pack
Topps Sell Sheet
These cards are basically identical to 2012 Topps series one with only that addition of the Opening Day logo in the bottom corner. The standard sized cards feature a full color action shot of the player. Bordered in white, the card fronts have the set and player name in silver foil. A rounded graphic in the lower left corner of the card fronts has the team logo. The graphic is trimmed in a similar color to the team color scheme. The card backs are photo-less and are horizontal in layout. The backs list moderate biographical information and complete career statistics.
What I pulled:
252 unique cards
206 base set cards - 206/220 = 93.64% of the base set
40 inserts
6 serial numbered parallels
Card fronts:

The inserts: (not all scanned)
9 Fantasy Squad
9 Elite Skills
9 Superstar Celebrations
5 Opening Day Stars (3D cards)
8 mascot cards
6 blue parallels cards #/2012

I absolutely love 2012 Topps Opening Day base card design. It is pretty much the same as 2012 Topps Series one. The design is simple and clean. I also really like the horizontal backs and the occasional horizontal fronts. The shot selection is great with some good actions shots and some candid moments. There are tons of inserts and parallels loaded into Opening Day. I actually would have preferred a few less inserts and a few more base cards in my box, but that will not make completing the base set that much harder.
The Bottom Line:
I give 2012 Topps Opening Day a buy rating. It will be very easy to complete a base set with a box, a few extra packs and some light trading. There are lots of inserts and parallels to chase. Buy a box and trade your Tigers cards to me!
The Final Score:
Final Ratings (Out of 5):
Base set collect-ability: 4/5
Big-hit Hunter: 1/5
Prospector Hunter:4/5
Overall Design: 5/5
Fun: 5/5
Value: 5/5
Re-buy: 5/5
Overall Quality: 5/5
Overall: 34/40 (85% = A)
Topps sent me this box to review for Full Spectrum Baseball. As always I am offering base and insert cards to members here for a SASE.
Thanks to Topps for making this review possible!
