What to do with traders no one wants?

    Hi,

I am pretty sure some of you have experience this: getting stuck with cards that no one wants. I am not talking about bases, but Inserts, Parallels, Game-Used, RC and even Autos.

The economic crisis seems to hit the hobby very hard. Only serious collectors seems to still enjoy collecting hockey cards. The less serious, the one I used to trade my less desirable traders (the one that could be excited over something else than a shield, a 1/1 or a seven breaks patch), seems to have left.

Result? I am now stuck with mid-end cards and low-mid value traders that no one want.

For example, I posted a list of over 300 cards, all booking for more than 10 $ over the last month. The post have been seen on three different forums for a total of near 700 times. I think I have been able to make 7 or 8 trades out of this post. And in most of the cases, I end up getting tradebaits, not even cards for my PC.

So, my question to you: what do you do with your traders that no one wants? Do you sell them in bulk? Give it to the kids? Trade them at others advantage?

Would really like to get some input on this matter.
    I collect the following:
    - Vintage (Stars and RC)
    - 2010-11 ITG Decades (Auto, GU, bases)
    - Stars from the 1980s (in modern sets)
    - Montreal Canadians Legends (bases, inserts, parallels, #, RC, Auto, GU)
    - Montreal Canadiens actual players (inserts, parallels, #, RC, Auto, GU)

i have liquidated all my traders on two or three occasions that no one wanted for rock bottom prices...I think like $100 for a big ol' box of inserts, gu and autos...that really no one wanted and another of relatively decent size for $40. But finding a buyer was tough. I know what you mean...I have gone leaner on my PC...collecting only nice patch autos...perhaps I am part of the problem, but I just don't have the funds to buy many boxes, and I don't need yet another jersey card of my PC guys...I have a bunch...I just don't see the difference in this years UDs1, UDs2, etc...you know?

I listed all my unwanted GU and Autos on here...
I sold them all for dirt cheap ($1-2 a piece).. and even though I lost out money wise, it was worth it.
By the time I was finished, I had over $160 in my PayPal... and i'd rather that than unwanted cards any day.

You could always start a new wantlist. Lots of people collect the UD Game Jerseys from S1 & S2 and, for the most part, they are easily obtainable and popular. Why not pick a mid-end or low end jersey set and say "all these guys are for trade if I get something from my GU set".

But yes, I agree. Many low & mid end tiered cards are accumulating. Are we already in the middle of a 90's style crash where most cards have lost value? Time to play the stock market. Invest in the cards that will survive and remain popular years from now and liquidate everything that will become bankrupt. The question is which are which? If you figure it out, please share with me.

    Cheers,
    reoddai

    i

    I tried this!
I put together a long list of OPC bases from the 80's that I need (mostly commons). I also decide to complete 1990-91 to 1993-94 Upper Deck master sets by trading for the inserts that I was missing.
I can't say it was a huge success...

I tried to sell here and on two other forums at very low prices. Like 8 $ BV cards for 0.50 $ or 1 $. Again, not a success (don't think I sold for more than 20 $...)

I might try the "lot at very low price" option in a near future. Like one poster said: getting a few buck is better than no buck at all.

Thanks for your input, all of you. Very appreciate!

    Pacadie:

Send me a list of everything you have. I am a collector of sometimes unwanted stuff, I may need some and will buy from you if I find something I need or can move.

I don't collect inserts after 2004 I'm afraid. If you have stuff before that date, let me know.

I love inserts and parallels from 1995-2004.

    Cheers!
