EBay vs BV
Here's my issue without mentioning any names or player card involved, I want to see who is in the right or wrong i know it's been on ongoing debate. I have a card with a BV of $100 I offered it for $30 dlvd to someone looking for the player The response was that the last auction won on eBay sold for $13, and seemed insulted tat could care less what eBay "says", what are people actually going by.

You are right, it is an ongoing debate. I know many people respect "book" and Beckett in general. My opinion is, anything you want to sell is valued at what the market will bear i.e. what will someone pay for it when you have it for sale by the time you need it sold by. If no one will pay $100 or even $30 then it isn't "worth" that much. If you have a long window in which you are trying to sell, perhaps you can get more.
There are many ebay haters but the fact is, it is possibly the largest marketplace there is right now. You have to be careful when researching closed auctions. Don't let someone just say the last one went for $13, go see why. Did it go Buy it Now? Did it end as an auction? How many bids? When did it end? Any damage to the card, new seller, etc etc. There are a lot of variables so I tend to use ebay avg but even that ticks off some BV fanatics. I put very clearly in my signature that I don't do Book Value so that hopefully it doesn't come to a heated argument. At the end of the day, as long as both parties are happy it won't matter what you use for a trade, but selling is a different story. You probably wouldn't pay $5000 for a car that other people are buying at $1500 with the same mileage and condition even if Kelly Blue "book" says it is worth $7500, right?

Book value has zero relevance when it comes to sales unfortunately. As much as the producers of said book value will defend the process, very seldom does book value represent anything close to average market sales in both directions.
Book value is a "guide" for trading. Not a bible. Any trade is essentially a negotiation where BV can be a factor. As for pricing cards for sale, bottom line is they are your cards and you sell them for what you want. But at the same time, you will be hard pressed to find takers for more than they can buy them anytime online elsewhere.

A guy walks into a store .... he is thirsty ....
He sees a can of Coke for $1. Right beside that, he sees the same size can of Pepsi for $3. Which one is the guy gonna buy?
There is alot of debate between proper values, BV or SV. But usually only when trading. When its just a flat out sale, the common thing to do is check completed listings on ebay.
While the last auction might have gone for only $13, you should see what others have also sold for. $30 might be high, but $13 also might be very low. Try and take the average, and offer that price ( remember your not eating the listing fee or final sale fees on ebay as well ). You might be high as the seller, but the buyer might also be quoting the lowest sale recorded to get a steal

the thing people need to understand is, ebay auction is a liquidation of a card. Not very often I EVER sell anything auction style, always use BIN or best offer as you always get higher (unless its a very rare occasion where its a crazy bidding war and it spikes). Want an example, here:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/NEW-FREDERIC-...item519fe1b502
sold for 10$, so obviously someone here on SCF is going to say, well I want less than ebay and offer 10$dlvd. We all know this, this is how it goes. So instead I take the BIN ebay route, and this is what I just got for mine about 45 mins ago:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/280906726201?...84.m1562.l2649
double
Other thing is, if its 100$BV and hes offering 13$, tell him no and you will trade it to him instead and make him give you another 100$BV card in return that WILL sell for 30$+. Thats the way to do it :)

I agree with you Andrew. But there is also another thing to do walk away. There are a few no names mentioned on this site who think there cards are worth more then yours and want double for what they are sending you whether it be BV, SV or what it sold for on Ebay & get insulted when you tell them no. You don't have to deal with these guys. My block list keeps getting bigger. I'm noticing this trend with new members mostly thou.

I was in school for four years with no student loan, so I'm came up with a method to make money from cards the right way lol. Took some time and effort and a lot of ebay watching, but it kept my pocket money going for four years. By big BV cards for low amounts, trade those at BV for cards that sell higher, and continue that cycle. You wouldnt believe how easy it really can be to start with 2 - 3$ and through a couple trades end up with a card that easily sells 60$+ or higher. Now I work/I'm too lazy haha
