Not too bad. In an increase of like 300k a year and he's a Penguin for life.

When healthy, best player by a mile.

Wow. Good for him and good for the Pens.

Big risk taken by the Penguins because they are on the hook for the full $100 million whether Crosby is healthy and playing or injured and not. Crosby is by far the best player in the league when healthy but the concussion he had was serious and I fear it could be Lindros like.

Insurance will cover the Penguins if he is not. Mr. Lemieux didn't get to be where he is by being stupid.

That is true. I forgot about insurance though if I was an insurance company I'd be loath to take such risk. Probably have to pay huge insurance fees to cover that.

Either way - SOMEONE pays for him regardless if he plays....

I'd love to hear what all the Sid-haters think about this deal. Based on the cap being 70 million the next season, if Sid wanted to command cap max (which the best player in the game, should, right?) then he could be making a few million more than he will.
To me, I always boil it down to how much money do you really need? 100 million from hockey alone, plus all his sponsorships - he'll be set for life, provided he's healthy enough to enjoy it once his hockey days are over. So to me, taking well under what his market value would be, he's showing me he loves it here in Pittsburgh and cares more about winning and putting the best team together possible to go for the Cup than he does about making the most, per year and overall, on the deal.
