Michael Jordan Autograph - What do you guys think?

When I was 4 and my brother was 12 we wrote a letter and sent it to the Michael Jordan fan club. This is what we got in return.

For years I have wondered if it was authentic. It's not a preprint or an autopen. It's a legit hand-signed sharpie signature. My gut tells me that it's probably a secretarial, just because the auto looks a little off. Then again, there's a few things working in my favor:

    1. MJ's auto changed a lot over the years. This is postmarked from Chicago on August 5, 1992. Almost 20 years ago now!

    2. I've never seen another one of them. I've seen the preprinted letter, but never the little slip with the auto. You would think that if they were secretarials they would have been pumping them out and there would be quite a few out there.

I would probably never sell it, so I don't really care either way. I figure PSA and JSA wouldn't authenticate it. They barely authenticate legit looking MJ's, let alone ones that are a little weird.

So, let me know what you think. No hurt feelings if you think it's not authentic.

Here's the only similar 'With the Compliments of' card I've ever seen online, though it's unsigned.

P.S. If it is legit, is that the cleanest looking MJ auto you've ever seen or what?!

Its obviously somebody's real autograph not printed, Michael Jordan not sure but Im no authentication expert.

The J and D in Jordan look funny to me also the ICHAEL
I never have bought a Jordan AUTO that was authenticated or certified because so many people will try to emulate his signature and make fakes.

Also not sure if Jordan really had a lot of time to do Nike work and sign stuff for customers but maybe U got in at a good time where he said 10,000 letters as a promotion?

Sending it in is a great idea or waiting until JSA or PSA is in your area that way U can check if they will authenticate it.

Good Luck hope it is real that would be sick!

it almost looks like someone traced the auto onto the paper from the preprint signature, they look almost the same and most pre print autos look different from the hand signed autograph.

A very good theory, enough so to make me go check. The autographs, though similar, don't line up exactly. My explanations are any of these:

    1. It's authentic
    2. It's a secretarial
    3. Your comment made me think that maybe one of my parents faked it to make my brother and I think we got a real signature. It's been 20 years, but I'll ask. I was two young to remember if we opened the letter ourselves or not, so it's always possible. Nonetheless, if they did fake it it's pretty dang good, especially since it's not traced and the pressure points all look really good (doesn't look to be signed slowly).

That's nice of your parents if they did that. :)

100% Not real. Seen dozens of those sent to fans with that fake sig. Don't even waste your money with JSA.

Can you elaborate? Is it presumed to be a secretarial signature? If there's so many of them out there why have I never found another online? Can you provide a link? Not arguing (I don't think it's authentic either), just curious.

Checkout worthpoint for past auctions for this item. I've been a collector of Jordan for over 20 years so that inded is not MJ's sig that's for sure.

That is a legit Jordan auto - actually one of the rarest styles. It's a full name auto from around 90-92 or so but occasionally pops up other years.
heres the same signature with UDA authentication
